The worst bass for metal?...a broken one. And I'm not 100% on that either. Other wise all bets are off. Fretless, headless, body less, hollow body, acoustic, double, stand up, sit down, wash tub, 1 string, 2 string, 3 string more, any brand any shape any color, pink kitties, purple butterflies, blue moons and green clovers, all can be magically metalicious.

I'm just throwing out names here. Honestly I think it would be hard to find a bass that absolutely could not be used for metal.
Unlike some of the other replies here who are just being "silly" showing kids basses, cheap basses, or broken basses, etc.. Here's a serious response to your post.
The worse bass for metal in my opinion which turns out who's SOLE PURPOSE HAPPENS TO ACTUALLY BE CUSTOM MADE FOR METAL is a B.C. Rich Beast Bass.. And I am not just talking the Bottom of the Line Beast Bass.. of course those are terrible.. But I am talking the $1000 Range Beast Basses..
1. They are made for ANDRE THE GIANT! Jumbo Frets, Oversized pretty much overall! Including Weight! And unlike other basses that have large frets and end up only being 19-22 frets.. oh no, not here, They ARE JUMBO FRETS and RETAIN 24 FRETS! So IT IS Very Long!
I have a four string, i'm 5'-7", moderate sized hands, and I struggle to get the notes pressed when doing a 3 fret note spread... and No Way in hell can you do a four fret spaced note.. i.e. index finger on 1st fret, then spread pinky over to the 4th fret.. it Ain't happening! And this is with a 4 string... I can't imagine a 5 string!
I wish they would make one without Jumbo Frets or a neck size similar to like an Ibanez with a Wizard neck.. but that's probably only when you step into the $2000+ range handmade customshop B.C. Rich's.. however I can imagine the reason why they install jumbo frets is with a smaller & shorter neck, it probably looks weird or disproportionate to the body.
Besides the oversizeness of the bass.. you cannot deny that it is the Best looking Metal Bass there is! it gives you the greatest Stage Presence there is! THERE IS NO BASS MORE "METAL" THAN IT! And put on some DR RED or Black Colored Bass Strings and you are set! (I use to use black for the bottom 3, and red for the top string), Make a custom Spiked Neck Strap, and change out those B.C. Rich pickups for some DiMarzios to use with the Active setup, and you have the best looking and sounding Metal bass there is!
Even though I own a number of other basses and I HATE PLAYING MY BEAST.. when I use to play live or record in the studio.. It always had to be the BEAST!
It's Really a Love/Hate Relationship.. it's one of the worse basses you'll ever handle, but it's the best Bass you will ever play! So it answers your question of "What Is The Worse Bass For Metal", but at the same time answers "What Is The Best Bass For Metal"!

on austen city limits edger meyer squeeled his acoustic upright so maybe one could be used for metal. and as far as frettless listen to some later death albums, frettless bass and 110% metal. whats wrong with hello kitty? hello kitty rocks \m/
Les Claypool uses a Carl Thompson. Primus is weird, but much of their work I think definitely qualifies as metal.
then brought it back in 1988 and hasn't used anything else since.
i'm telling you guys you're missing the boat if you think a hofner can't do metal. it doesn't look metal but it can certainly do it. again, possibly the most brutal low end monster i've ever played.
I have, and still do, listen to and play my fair share of metal - meshugga, nargoroth, nekrogoblikon, alestorm etc...
the two bass sounds are not the "only" ones I've heard, however they are the most frequently recurring. The particular models of the bass changes, the player's playing style changes, yes, but the basic tone of the bass, while it does certainly deviate, can be categorized into those two basic groups. Oddly enough, I can either get those tones, or get close enough to those tones with just my Fender Jazz.
IMO, but the bass is an astoundingly versatile instrument, the P bass is fairly limited in terms of its number of tones - but oddly enough those few tones it gets are good for virtually and genre of music.
I don't think Paul thought they sucked. They honestly have one of the coolest sounds around when ran through a strong compressor for recording. Paul got a Hofner because it looked the same upside-down and he was a lefty. At least that's what I was told by the guy who sang "Blinded by the Light" (aka the "douche" song).
I feel like the Jack Casady should be a strong contender for worst bass for metal. There's just something about it that looks very wholesome. Plus it would probably feedback pretty badly on a metal stage. Don't ask me how it sounds though, or how metal bass is supposed to sound.
I think even a Jack Casady bass could be used for metal, depending on the tone one was going for.

im 6' 2" and a big guy so the beast might work for me, ive been eyeing them up online but havent tried one yet. as for the beast being the best for metal my wmd widow would give it a run for the money. as for the worst in my opinion for my it would be a gibson or epi eb
. mid range basses turn to mudd with distortion. i agree 100% about the strap on the beast....evil \m/ .
