worst bass line ever

Bingo. But I love the song so much I don't mind it. Plus it gives me the opportunity to get stupid with my guitar player in the 'synchronized rock stage moves' department.

Completely agree. It's one of very few Judas Priest songs I can tolerate (just not my type of music). Boring song to play if I'm only focusing on playing that f#. But the energy of the song and how the crowd reacts is great and sometimes that's all it takes to make it fun slamming out 8ths. ;) I have been guilty of doing the whole "Priest line-up" while playing it. :p

Worst bass line ever ?

One that doesn't fit the song.

If the song needs the bass to be "one note" for the entire song, and it's the "right" bass line for the song, then it's a great bass line...no matter how boring the bass player might think it is.

Only the song matters. Almost nobody goes to the record store looking for a cd of "bass lines".....

Play what fits, and not a note more...or less.

Just my opinion.

Ditto!;)

I have to say white room. Not that it's a boring tune, it was murdered by one of my instrumental workshop classmates, but yet he thought he had it nailed. Every time he was asked to pick a song for the class to play, white room. And everytime, he would forget how to play AT LEAST one - two parts. This is also the same kid that thought his squire 5 with a horribly forward bowed neck and 5 year old strings sounded better than any bass ever. I'm not bashing squires but I kinda see an oxymoron in having a 5 string starter series of an instrument. Ya know? The kid refused to let me fix his bass, regardless of how out of intonation and how wacky the string heights were. Oh and he INSISTED on plugging into the active port on the amp, always. EL OH EL. but yea he killed it for me, white room. I'm done now ;)

We play White room and I have a blast on bass, not really boring or easy at all....if you play it the way it is supposed to be played!

There's a couple of songs in our set that I dread coming to (in particular 'Love Shack), not because I think they're boring, but because I find them physically demanding. Not challenging mind you, just demanding in that they are so repetitive they uncomfortable to play for the duration of the song and my left hand seizes up.

Same here but for me, it was STP's "Wicked Garden"

A super easy HAND CRAMP!

Let me see, Worst bass line ever... Erm none of them,
Sure some may be more simple than others, But personally so far at practices i love the difference, go from pumping 8th notes to scales a plenty, Don't mind what I do.
When it comes to gigs, Spend more time focused on playing the intricate songs competantly, The simpler songs, Bloody rock it and give the crowd a good show.

+1000

With or Without You - U2.

That is all.

You might find it technically boring, but it's the bass line that makes the song. How often can you say that??

The worst bass line is the one you don't enjoy playing. If you like the song, you shouldn't have a problem with the bass line. Period. It's called being musically 'mature'. The song comes first, not your ego!

+1 for Two Tickets to Paradise

+1 for Small Things

+1 for Running with the Devil

Smoke on the Water

Roadhouse Blues (I love this song, BTW.)

I'm not saying these bass lines don't work for the song, but I struggle to pay attention to the song when I play these live. They're just so repetitive.

Yeah, that's why I play songs I don't like or songs I find utterly boring bass-wise. Because my ego doesn't come first.
I've been in one cover-band on and off for the last ten years. We play mostly 80's-rock songs and I can honestly say I don't like 90% of the bands we cover songs from. Either because it's not my preferred type of music or because it's boring to play. But I learn 'em and play 'em with a big fat grin on my face because I love traveling around, going up on stages with my mates and giving the audience a good time (and getting paid, something that isn't always the case in my original bands ;) ).

Sometimes a good song has a terrible bassline, sometimes a terrible song has a good bassline and sometimes I'm lucky and get to play a terrible song with a terrible bassline. :p
Lighten up, we're just comparing notes on what we enjoy and what we don't. :) Noone here has yet to say they only play songs where they approve of the original bassline.

Wasn't meant to be taken overly serious ...

Now, if you personally enjoy playing mostly stuff you don't like, that's your thing and I understand it ($$). Been there, done that . . and I wouldn't do it again (at least on a regular basis). It is much more enjoyable when you play (mostly) songs that you dig.

copperhead road, and tush are two we do that have simple bas lines, they give me a chance to sing back up, and head bang a little :) lol

my band just learned copperhead road, it is pretty boring, but first night we played it live and i was using my full rig, when i came in with the low d, it sounded awesome! played tush in an old band, really simple blues line but again great song. simple is sometimes whats called for.
