I'm English. I get it, but I'm not allowed to tell.
A lot of people care, “clothes make the man” and all that. The look is 50% of the presentation of an act, as it is a signifier to appeal to the target demographic audience, something that they can identify with. Why do you think that for years, the identities of the 30-50 year-old Wrecking Crew members were kept secret, so that the illusion that all those teen to 20’s kids in their mod fashions were performing the music was kept intact for their adoring fans? If the Beatles had come along as pudgy 30-somethings, wearing street clothes or mundane standard formal wear, would they have gone over at all, in spite of the music? That’s why Elvis eclipsed Bill Haley, he was far more exciting, and his being a snappy dresser had something to do with it.Who cares. As long as I like the music, the clothes they wear are irrelevant.
Did they ever get out of the basement?
Paul Revere and the Raiders
Devo
The Shaggs
You’ve all missed the point…Devo was performance art, their on-stage apparel was satire, a mirror held up to reflect the dumming down and absurdity in society going on at the time, and they perceptively called the resultant Idiocracy. They nailed it.DEVO might have made some interesting records, but they were just arrogant college kids. I can't take their ideas seriously.

Darius Rucker is seriously into golf and hosts an amateur tournament every year. That's pretty much how every band in the 90s looked. Maybe not the stoned part, but the image.
These guys always come to mind with 90s non-image. The dude on the left just got finished golfing, apparently.
