That was so imitative of Khruangbin that it verged on parody. All I can say about the technique is, it’s about all you can do with those nails, girlfriend.

The visual performance may belie technique, and in fact is its own display of technique. For example, the right hand muting/controlling note length is atypical or idiosyncratic, but still effective and may be part of an effort towards choreography. There are too many unknowns about their development, artistic direction, and management to make worthwhile judgments. More research is needed.

Hey, Sting used to have great technique, now he plays cliff notes versions of his bass lines with his thumb. Sounds good enough, I guess. And he can still sing over contrapuntal lines, which is more than I can do. This is not a band I expect to see in 5 years, so…. Whatever.

It's practically a genre on its own now. My IG feed these days is regularly peppered with trios I've never heard of with "hot woman on bass with marginal playing ability, clean-toned faux-exotic guitar playing dude, sensible tidy drummer" often with wigs or some other similar styling, playing vaguely groovy, snooze-worthy music. They seem to be crawling out of the woodwork.
