Worth it!

A Ric 4001 back in 1973 .
I traded in my 67 Guild starfire II and still had to finance the rest . I was 22 and working in a kitchen cabinet factory making $3.75 an hour and playing gigs on the weekend . I think we each made about $30 a gig . I had to skimp on some things but I was having fun playing strip clubs and dive bars . I financed all my gear back then , could only afford one bass . The Ric was awesome .
Loved it though !

If an orthodontist literally goes broke buying a bass / basses, she’s got a problem.
I never suggested anything of the sort, merely that people in that sort of income class can easily finance really expensive instruments because they have a high income, even if they don't have the cash on hand to make the purchase outright.

This alembic series II is my largest investment in a bass, which i bought in 2012 and flew out to the alembic factory to collect it. Whilst it did not break me, it took a huge noticeable wedge out of my funds and i doubt if i could be persuaded to make that kind of outlay on another bass. That said it is the most satisfying and sounding bass i've ever played.

Not full-on "broke", but I can recall three times I had to sell a very nice bass due to sudden financial stresses.

1. Non-export Aerodyne Jazz in Old Candy Apple Red

2. Fender American Standard in Jade Pearl Metallic (one of my wife's favorite finishes, so that adds some sting)

3. Fender Limited-Edition MIJ "All-Black" JB62 Jazz

The last one is the loss that hurts the most. Not only was it one of the best stock Jazzes I've ever encountered, but I bought it from Ishibashi and had it shipped all the way across the globe. Plus, the price was way below what you'd expect for such a beastie. :banghead: :bawl:
