Would this put you off as a buyer?

“wouldn’t be willing to do that” does not mean no. ‘Can’t do that’ or ‘won’t do that’ means no.

He’ll probably do it, he just isn’t willing right now because some prerequisite hasn’t been met, such as the offer of more money, payment in cash with free local pickup, or the promise of a good 5 star Yelp review.

I'm wondering if the bass is actually only worth $2500, the seller is hoping for $2700, and the good case would make it a square deal? In any event, the buyer should move on. I recently made an unsolicited, reasonable offer to a seller for an overpriced marginally popular bass part. The guy went bezerk on me. Oh well, I tried.
in all honesty I've seen similar examples come up in the $2200-$2500 range but they pop up sporadically, as far as waiting well I'm at home and have the free time to enjoy now rather than later

I had emailed him and said I would be interested in purchasing your $2700 bass if you would swap out the case with the case from the other listing.
For you it's a straight swap... For him it could be extra work: Are these basses and cases stocked at the same location? The ad for the other bass must be changed. ( I'dd like to know your reaction when you are looking to buy a bass and the add changes without notice... you buy the thing and receive something else than you expected... I bet you'll be the first to complain about it.)
It looks like the seller has time and doesn't need to do the extra work.
Ironically he made me an offer once of 50% my asking price on a reasonably priced instrument
That's how business works... buy low sell high... I bet he didn't complain when you declined the deal.
Am I unreasonable?
Yes.

Not because the seller may or may not be rude,
but because even though the seller said "no offers",
it is still good business practice to negotiate on certain items.

Good business practice or blatantly Ignoring the request?

I will say this, I sell my items here on TB on the low side and if say the price is firm I commonly will not even respond or ask if they need help reading the ad.

That might come off rude but on the Contra I find it rude on the other side.

Take that for what it is I come in peace.

I guess we just have different business practices, as I said I personally have no problem improvising to make a deal, I also welcome offers.

I guess I have a soured opinion of the seller to begin with as he is one of the dealers that set everything at 100-120% of fair market value and then they sit for months or years

Ironically he made me an offer once of 50% my asking price on a reasonably priced instrument

50%.... So you know what he paid for the bass that he’s selling.

I only buy used at a price I can resell and not get hurt if I don’t like it. I would never pay top dollar for a bass that I couldn’t play first and that has a crappy case.

no idea what he paid for the bass he has listed, I was saying he offered me $700 for a Rickenbacker I had listed at $1500 once

I must have missed something. How does the pandemic factor into this?

if you read other threads some people on here think the bottom will fall out on nonessential goods soon but that was not my point, my point was the case is damaged and shipping is a pig in a poke right now , drivers are overwhelmed, I've heard first hand reports of damage on other threads that people speculate is from the increased work load / different employee's, basically that items aren't getting the same quality of care as usual

That makes sense.
