Easy, Bill. You're the one who said that "they should know better." Why passively call GB out on their poor marketing, then get confrontational with the poster for it? Maybe I'm misinterpreting the emotional content of your post.

Apparently, today's moral in the Amps Forum is "All's fair in bass cabinet marketing."

Hi, my name is Greasyogre, and I use an Ampeg SVT15E and SVT210HE together with a Carvin FET900 bridged (900w @ 4 ohms, 600w @ 8). The speaker in the SVT15E has been replaced with a Kappa Pro 15LF-2, so it may not compare directly to your 15. I ran just the 1X15 the other day since I am considering leaving the 2x10 at the practice space for the next show. It was still crazy loud, and the sound guy usualy complains about my volume at much lower levels anyway, so I think I will try using just the 15 at a show. I realy just need something to help the drummer and myself hear the bass on stage, and it should do this just fine. It sounds plenty punchy for my taste, but I may like Coke and you could be a Pepsi person.

the problem is, every time someone gives you an opinion...
It get's cut down to worthless by someone else (an expert) who knows better!

I've had people say If you want "punch" get a 4X10...bull!

bottom line, go play through many cabs, find the one you like...

right now my 212 is the punchiest cab I have, everything set flat
more so than my Golliath III and 115

IMO punch comes from proper EQing, & headroom

now if part of your "change" includes volume,
IMO a 4X10 (in most cases) will offer more SPL than a 115

PS: to answer your original question, No

I would encourage the OP to make that switch, ASAP. I've played a 4x10 (Hartke XL) since the mid-90s and I would never play a 1x15. We have full P.A. support on mostly indoor bar gigs, and invariably I'm notching out the low frequencies on stage to keep from killing the room with low end. The way we roll on stage I mostly need mids and highs from my cabinet and for that a 4x10 is great whereas a 1x15 would just make the problem worse. Volume is never a problem... even against 3 electric guitars and drums, my head never goes above 2.5 on the master.

To the OP though, be prepared... with the extra punch and definition of a 4x10 you may wind up hearing some things in your playing you didn't know were there... for good and bad. You can cover up a lot of slop with a 1x15 and the low EQ turned up.

Past year and a half my set up has been pretty crazy.

8x10 to 6x10 to 6x10 and a 2x15, to just a 6x10, to a 4x10 and 1x15, to a 1x15, etc...

I've got more than a couple bass cabs: 2 full sized Ampeg fridges (SVT810E and the SVT-BassBottom) a pair of Ampeg 1x15s (115SVTEN) an Ampeg 2x15 (215SVTE) as well as a Bergantino 412 cabinet.

My go to set-up is the 2x15 with another 1x15 added on.

that is to much for me.I'd love to have the money to experiment that... Jobless tough...

well, i come down to this conclusion: (my personal preference) i wouldn't ever switch the 1x15 for the 4x10 because i jus't can't live without that low end growl, i just can't!!! i might add a 4x10 to the 1x15 but never switch, so i'll stick with my awsome growling Trace Elliot 1518 cab.

u just can't get those "real" growling low Hz with a 10" speaker... (my own preference!!)

so, thanks guys for your input, i really learned alot!!!
