Praying to the lords of bass guitar necks for a solid structure with full adjustment!
Not anymore
I love to watch auctions. I've had that open all day and would glance at it here and there until right near the end.
A vintage clone theory pedal ended today. In the last minute it went from $175 to $368.Not anymore
Well got it!!!!! Waiting for shipping charge from seller then hope to have in my hands within 1 week. I am excited for the possibility of a real gem at well under market…and sick at the possibility of very expensive fire wood!
So for those still following, the bass arrived last night. Here are some additional pictures. The neck feels solid and looks straight, the switches and knobs feel really solid. However it is missing two bridge saddles. Hopefully these can be found somewhere online. I can’t tap the pickups to see if it works when plugged in due to the covers. Tomorrow I will put 2 strings on it and see if it makes noise. However I am going to take it to the experts at Fountain Works Guitars in KC and see what they think. If everything fails, my cat Kevin had plans to make the case his bed. (Yeah the handle is broken on one side).
But holding it and putting my ear to the body, it has a lot of music still inside. I am hopeful.
Congratulations, it looks good, I'm sure if you look around, Reverb etc. You can probably find a used 3 point if you can't find the saddles. I'm not sure if the new ones are the same or not, @ajkula66 should be able to help.
That thing looks in pretty nice shape, I'm jealous, keep us updated.

First and foremost, congrats on a very cool "new" bass. Having owned an RD Standard for over a decade back in the day I'll say that there's nothing quite like them. Love them or hate them, RDs are a different beast from just about anything else on this planet.
As for the saddles, even the ones from Epiphone basses should fit, even though the bridge itself won't due to different post size. Personally, I'd just throw a Hipshot on it and call it a day, but it's your bass...

Sweet! Seems like mostly good news. Don’t sweat the saddles. I am not a fan of the Gibson 3 point bridge. The worst that happens is you upgrade to one of the awesome Hipshot replacement bridges and stash the original in the case next to Kevin.

I dont much about this line but the only thing id do is make any changes or improvements reversable which means no drill holes.
As for saddles etc, I'd get a local turner to do that, maybe build a new bridge etc
All about retaining the value and so the potential to increase is there over time.

I'd leave it as stock as possible if it were me. You could probably take two saddles out of one of these:
Hipshot bridges stick out like a sore thumb to me and don't always work on certain Gibsons although a lot of people like them, I put one on my EB4-L and couldn't get the action low enough. I currently have one on my 65 EB-3 but bought an original bar bridge for it as to me they're unsightly.
