Would you buy this bass?

Hi all, I've been looking at fretless jazz basses to get the Jaco sound and I came across this, what do you all think? It looks good however the blank headstock might mean that the resale value would be pretty bad if I ever did sell it. Or should I get a Fender Player series? Not much alternative in my price range unless you guys could suggest some ($1500).

Not for me, not a fan of pre-distressed "relic'ed" basses. Probably a perfectly fine bass, just doesn't do it for me. I'm admittedly biased, but I'd be looking at a fretless Sire V10: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

No.

IF it were me, I'd let this one pass. As you correctly point out, the unmarked headstock (normally this would say 'Edwards' and some model name) is going to be troublesome if you resell it. Jaco replicas are not THAT hard to find with a little legwork and some time to find a good one.

But, it's your call.

OP is in Australia where prices are significantly higher than USA. I agree though it is likely much cheaper to get one from Japan, they aren't so rare.

Dont worry about the blank headstock - thats how these came. Most people who would be interested in this type of instrument to begin with won't consider that a downside.

i wouldn't, but that's just me --- it just seems a little pricey for what it is (unless they're sought-after collectibles). i think there are a lot of fretless options that are probably better instruments...for less!

but whatever you do: fretless is the way to go, so good luck with that!

looks nice. I probably wouldn't spend that kind of money on it unless I played it and fell in love. This so-called "resale value" shouldn't ever be a consideration. This is not a house or car.

I infer that you're in Australia, yes? So your options are quite limited compared to those of us in, say the USA.

This looks like a really cool bass. The Edwards brand in manufactured by ESP in Japan- these are very high quality. Are you able to try the bass out in person?
