Not sure it's even the slap 'tone' per se, but just the nature of slap can sometimes be bass-lacking. The non-slap fills are great on their own and not sure you even need to switch styles ans everything else sounds killer. But then again, I am always in the less-slap-is-more camp...;)

On this song in particular, I'm really "feeling it" and so find myself adding fills and stuff that's not in the original, or even the cover versions. Has me wondering if I'm being a wanker.

I feel like I don't have a strong sense of if this is fine or too much. Would love some opinions. Thanks.

If you were doing studio recording, you could be more intentional and sparse.
That said, when I play this song, I play less, I think it sound better with more space and more swing/groove.

I think it sounds good. You dropped back to the groove when it was appropriate, and your runs and additions are tasteful and fit in very well. That said, I think what you do is plenty, and adding more wouldn't improve it. I also think you have some killer technique.

I agree that the brief slap early in the number seemed out of place and didn't sound consistent. Since I'm not a fan of slap, take it for what it's worth, but I'd leave it out of this number.

Ive played the BBA version for many decades which is waaay busier....personally preferred, but I'm a Bogert type player

Agree w slap comments but the playing fits the version. Myself I would fill little more during the lead break doing guitar riff for continuity and to fill the space

Like I said, I a Bogert disciple....

I would have done a lot more to it. If the singer and guitarist are OK with it, keep with it.
