Would you do it for 60-bucks?

Is it worth it to you?

  • Nope. I can wait.

  • I’d pay an add’l $30 more for 2-day

  • Yes! Next day! Impatience is a virtue!

i wouldn't. $60 buys a lot of beer: ship ground, sip a beer, wait.

Guaranteed Next Day shipping is a real thing, legitimate especially in the area of documents that have to be in court the next day. Barring severe weather of course. I don't know what keeps a bass safer cross country, being thrown onto a plane and truck or on to a slower plane and truck hours in the cold.

I would choose the +$30 option. Although it is not overnight expedited, it does raise the level of service a notch. Having worked at a shipping warehouse, I can say with certainty that the low budget ground shipments receive zero respect by the handlers. IMO going up a level at least indicates it may get treated with a little bit of dignity and a little more priority during load in..

I once bought a bass where the seller offered to ship it overnight at no obvious extra cost to me.
It was kinda cool getting the bass from a west coast seller a day after I bought it on the east coast.
What was even better was me playing it a few years then selling it back to the guy at a higher price because he wanted it back.

I deal with shipping on a daily basis. The only thing guaranteed about “expedited” is the speed at which the money leaves your wallet

Amen to that.

Expedited delivery dates offered by common carriers are declarations of intent, not guarantees of service. Read their legal fine print. There are more weasels in that than you’ll find on a mink farm.

Still, there’s a good chance you’ll be happily surprised going with expedited shipping if it works as advertised. But in my experience (I once was in charge of handling an operation that moved over 4000 packages a month) it’s a coin toss if any significant distances are involved. And home deliveries are most often effected since they’re at the mercy of your area’s delivery hub and how busy it is.

I would. Less time in the shipper's hands and less handling by handoffs in overnight. Especially when you're near a shipping hub like I know you are.
Less handling is the key. The fewer times it gets tossed around in unloading and re-loading, the better. But I don't know enough about logistics to say if the ground packages get molested more than the air packages.

The rates for "expedited" levels of service are arbitrarily set, and much of what constitutes different levels of service are artificial constraints put in place by the shipping company ... Of course if you are financially well-off enough that it's all just pocket change to you (relatively speaking), then the dilemma of whether it's financially worth it or not isn't even a thing, at that point it's just a matter of ethics I guess. Ethics vs urgency of the specific situation... How soon do you NEED the bass?

@tb-player, please, PLEASE wait! My wife is in shipping & receiving, & none of the shipping companies will guarantee next-day. They'll take your money alright, but your bass will still get there when it gets there, & they will NOT give you a refund either. The $30.00 2-day option holds some water if you go that route, but even then, no guarantees.
