Would you do it for 60-bucks?

Is it worth it to you?

  • Nope. I can wait.

  • I’d pay an add’l $30 more for 2-day

  • Yes! Next day! Impatience is a virtue!

I worked at a UPS hub during college (back in the stone ages) first loading tractor trailers, then sorting. At least at that time, all expedited shipping packages, high value packages and oversized/overweight packages were handled separately and were loaded at the back of the trailer - last in, first out. Those items did not go through the belt system/meat grinder that everything else did, but were moved separately from unloading to loading via an electric “train” that was driven around the facility.

Scenario: You have a nice bass coming from across the country. It’ll take a week to get to you. But for $60 more, you could have it tomorrow. To you, is it worth the extra $$ to have it the next day?

This scenario played out for me yesterday. The seller and I worked out a deal where I provided the UPS label thru my company. I could print a Ground label, but for $30 more I could do 2-day. Or for $60 more, I could have it the next day. I chose next day so I’d have all weekend to play with my new bass (and the bass wouldn’t sit in a cold tractor trailer all weekend).

Would you do that?

Naw. In my experience it ends up taking three days instead of two anyway, because inevitably there's some delay with UPS, FedEx, whatever. Just save the money and have patience.

Just arrived in perfect condition. The seller dropped it off at UPS yesterday at 4:45pm (California time). That means this bass made the trip from CA to MD in 17 hours 15 minutes.

I know a lot of you said I should be patient. But that's pretty freakin' cool! Now I can tell my wife it was an impulse buy... close to the register. :D

What? You didn't wait 24 hours before opening it?

My impatience and natural desire to be cheap would be fighting an internal battle over that.

But cheap would win out, I'd wait.
Same, and it would be a short battle.

Besides: The way things flow in my life, I'd pay the 60 bucks and get the bass next day, and then 8 crises would immediately arise and cascade down on me. I'd forget I even bought the bass until Washington's birthday or thereabouts.
