Would you do it for 60-bucks?

Is it worth it to you?

  • Nope. I can wait.

  • I’d pay an add’l $30 more for 2-day

  • Yes! Next day! Impatience is a virtue!

Scenario: You have a nice bass coming from across the country. It’ll take a week to get to you. But for $60 more, you could have it tomorrow. To you, is it worth the extra $$ to have it the next day?

This scenario played out for me yesterday. The seller and I worked out a deal where I provided the UPS label thru my company. I could print a Ground label, but for $30 more I could do 2-day. Or for $60 more, I could have it the next day. I chose next day so I’d have all weekend to play with my new bass (and the bass wouldn’t sit in a cold tractor trailer all weekend).

Would you do that?
It depends on how much the bass is. If it was a $240 bass, no way. But if were something like $4200 then yes.

Depends.
I'm usually not in a hurry, but I did have a vintage bass shipped 2nd-day the week before xmas.
The deal came up quickly, and I didn't want it carrying on over the holiday weekend, as we had plans the following week.
On a $6000 bass, $60 is only 1%, so I'd probably spend it.
Depending on the value of the bass, the insurance becomes a bigger factor, and the extra $ for quicker shipping becomes less significant.
Nope, nope, nope! Not since COVID screwed everything up. I deal with this on a weekly basis, & my wife deals with it daily.
Would you elaborate more - which carrier / which services? Just curious...

Uhh... No. But, it isn't because I'm cheap - well, not too cheap, anyway. It's because, with 25 basses already, I'm not in a big hurry for the next one to show up. In fact, I'm currently waiting on 3 basses to get built; they'll be here sometime before the beginning of May. Hopefully... As for a new bass being in someplace cold while I wait? At this time of the year, that's pretty much inevitable - and a bass can only get so cold, regardless. I've thawed out more than one bass - successfully - over the years; one more is no big deal. Thawed one out a couple of weeks ago, in fact; a Custom Shop, left handed G&L Kiloton Fretless Bass. It's sitting in my living room right now, getting it's La Bella Low Tension Flexible Flats broken in. Being 3rd generation military; a for-real GI brat - and spending 24 years in the Air Force myself - "hurry up and wait" is deeply ingrained in me. So, no; I would just wait for that new bass to show up in it's own sweet time...

Not to me. I’m not in that big of a rush

It depends on your situation... do you have something else to play while waiting? The only reason I'd pay more would be the hope that the potential for damage or loss may be reduced.
I'm currently waiting on a new 4003 where the wait is expected to be 4 to 8 months...perhaps longer, but I paid $450 less than the next least expensive one in stock going for $2000. I have others to play in the meantime.

You pay $60 in the winter for ultra fast shipping only to see a label in the box that says : “DO NOT Open for 24 hours” otherwise your gloss finish can crack because of the change of temperature inside the house !
Use those $60 dollars to visit a psychologist to control anxiety attacks ; or buy a super nice cable or 2 sets of new strings !
