would YOU pay $6000 for this bass?

Its not that I'm appose to paying 6000 for a bass that sounds amazing and feels perfect to play. IMO you can't put a price on that. But at the same with that amount of money I could go buy a bass that not only plays, feels, and sounds perfect but also looks good. Like an F Bass or a Pedulla, not something that looks like it was stolen from an episode of The Jetsons. :bassist:

I hear what you say, but let's at least give the builders credit for doing something new. I mean, can anyone else name a builder who puts a carbon fibre top (beautifully coloured and quilted by the way) over a wood body?

Maybe people are just not willing to accept what is new or different. At the end of the day, I'd have a Fodera over this bass any day of the week, but then again, lots of people hate Foderas, because singlecuts are ugly, right? And Bongos are ugly too, and in fact, sod it - if it doesn't look like a Fender it's ugly. The End.

My respect for Prince skyrocketed when he played the Super Bowl halftime show in the pouring rain. He acted like he was playing in sunny San Diego. That dude is the ultimate professional. He's an excellent musician, too.

Anyone see the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame ceremony for George Harrison? Prince took the solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and absolutely nailed it. It was phenomenal.

As for the basses, they look pretty cool, but not $6k cool. For that money I want a Ritter or a Fodera, nice woods all the way please.

Looks like I've got to this party a little late...

As an owner of 3 Gus basses (and a G1 Guitar) I'm obviously a fan. They're not for everyone, but then it would be a boring world if we all liked the same stuff. Admittedly it was the looks that originally attracted me to them in the first place, but it was the tone and playability that actually got me to part with my money in order to own them.

As for the asking price of that particular bass... It's a little high for what seems to be a second-hand instrument, when allowing for the £-$ exchange rate at the time of the original post you could probably have ordered one to your own spec (not including piezos or MIDI) for around the same price.

From a US PoV most UK custom bass prices seem excessively high simply because of the higher CoL in the UK and the exchange rate. The recent discussion about the price of the relaunched Wals - another UK made bass with all custom-built hardware - illustrates this. Like the Wal, the if you want a Gus bass then there is no real substitute.
