I know in some places they use the term “respray” instead of refinished, but what is “refinished in an overspray fashion” supposed to mean? Gibberish!
Im not certain but I think they mean that it was lightly sprayed to sort of clean things up rather than stripping it down to wood and repainting/finishing .
Either way, Im with your assessment lol
 
No, not on a 59.
The headstock buttons started in 60.

Didn't know this (or rather, forgot having read it in the Fender Book, but just confirmed).
Wonder why Fender elected to add strap buttons to the headstock of the AVRI '57 Precision reissue? Strange that they promoted this inaccuracy for the full 30 years it was produced (1982-2012).
