ok, vintage cool factor aside, it’s a 60 year old bass. I’d definitely go for something modern at that price, most likely a custom build. I would buy a new car over a 1957 Chevy with bondo and a cheap paint job as well.

Nah. Not original enough for a collector (plus the refin doesn't look great), too much money for a player.
Ideally, when you buy a vintage bass, you'd want to be into it for a price that you can recoup in a couple years if you decide to sell it. The problem with this particular bass is that there are so many questions it raises that it will be a real struggle to unload it.
I know in some places they use the term “respray” instead of refinished, but what is “refinished in an overspray fashion” supposed to mean? Gibberish!
Im not certain but I think they mean that it was lightly sprayed to sort of clean things up rather than stripping it down to wood and repainting/finishing .

Nope. Way too much money for something I can buy for half that, which will sound, look, and play just as well or better.
Didn't know this (or rather, forgot having read it in the Fender Book, but just confirmed).
Wonder why Fender elected to add strap buttons to the headstock of the AVRI '57 Precision reissue? Strange that they promoted this inaccuracy for the full 30 years it was produced (1982-2012).
59 is an odd year because there is usually no neck date.

A refin; a replacement pickguard; bridge is shaped wrong; no pencil marks, no headstock strap button; elevated A-string pole pieces; no heel stamp…On the one hand I think "Wow, nothing gets by these guys." And on the other I think "Fetishists. I'm surrounded by fetishists!"

No, I wouldn't buy it. I'm not riding the vintage train. For that kind of money, I'm sure Nino could build me the best P-Bass AND the best Jazz Bass I could ever hope for.

I own a 59, a refinish. Price is about right for one of these if everything else checks out, but too many things don’t.
My bad. Triggers were an option in '59. This one has it built into the volume knob.
