Split between band members and taxes, it probably wouldn't leave him with enough to risk ruining his reputation for. The reviews of their last show were lukewarm about his singing, he just can't do those vocal acrobatics anymore. Doing 35 mega gigs failing to live up to people's expectation is probably the last thing he wants to do right now.
It's not as if he's short of a couple of quid for the rent money, is it?
More power to him. He earns my respect for this, even if my interpretation of his motives are wrong.

I think he realizes that people are finally beginning to forget about his screeching whine and how boring his music was and he doesn't want to risk reminding them... OR..he's finally realized how bloated and droll they were and is properly embarrassed.

I don't think that these guys are motivated by the money. No matter what, they could make millions more. Robert just must not like singing for Led Zeppelin.
I saw them back in 77 and I think it would be a better show now, actually. Too bad.
He made a comment last year about being free in 2014 for Zep. Now he backs out. Just playing games, I guess.
I would like to see the rest of them put a band together. I think that Jimmy and John Paul complimented each other very well.
The rest of the three with a good unknown singer and a new name...all new material. I'd go see that.

I've seen better bands at open mics. Ive played in better bands. My friends are in better bands. I could walk into any music store blindfolded and randomly reach down and grab an album better than this bunch of wailing, screeching, velvet panted prancing nancies. Boring and bloated in the 70s. Embarrassing now.
In case you can't tell... I reeeeeaaaaallllllly hate zeppelin. Worst waste of fm bandwidth and natural resources ever.

The Beatles went through the same thing. The circumstances surrounding their split were such that at least one of them didn't want any part of a reunion gig no matter how much money was on the table. Plant has gone on to do other things and has plenty of money in the bank; if he doesn't want to get back together with the rest of the band, then that's it. I am sure he has his reasons.

At some point, what is the money worth to him, anyway? When you have enough, why bother with more if it isn't what you want to do? 35 dates may seem like a pretty easy way to make a whole lot of money, but on the other hand, if he already has most of everything he wants and is already doing what he wants, what good is that money to him anyway? Money is only as good as what it can do, since you can't eat it, have sex with it, or anything else. It makes other things possible, but it has no inherent value beyond what it buys. If you have what you want already and have money left over, there's not much marginal utility in having a whole lot more money. Some people keep track of their value as humans by counting dollars. Robert Plant doesn't seem to be one of those people. He'll probably keep doing things like singing with Allison Krause.

Their recorded work is some of the most powerful in rock, but I saw them live 3 times and they never even came close to their recorded work. When you are trying to duplicate as many as 20 layers of guitar with a single instrument that may or may not be in tune, it leaves a LOT to be desired. There were plenty of examples of them all wandering off on musical tangents that simply crashed before they decided to get back to that all time favorite song, TOGETHER.
Not trying to take anything away from them at all, in their time they did more to popularize rock than any band extant. Just saying, if you are a big Zep fan, be happy with their records, because if you were to see them live, especially now and especially without bonzo or JPJ, you may never have the same reverence for their records as you do now.
Besides, Plant has a good thing going currently so why would he derail that, except for the money and I think it's safe to say no one from Zep really needs the money.

Only thing I'm jealous of is the Amazonian tribe so far removed from modern accoutrements that they've never suffered thru having to hear his lilting banshee crotch rock ruin their sense of communion with the ineffable.
In fact, I bet those tribes just used ALL the "Save the Rainforest" money thats been raised to pay Robert Plant to NOT play so they can preserve their coveted and unique place in the world away from his habitat destroying voice!

Yes... those bands were so much better... that is why we still talk about them decades later...
Led Zeppelin 1 is still better than %90 of music from any decade in my opinion.
I suppose for being 'pioneers' we have to give them some credit, but come on, their music is about as entertaining as diarrhoea

Bullseye. With a net worth of $170 million, it's not hard to imagine he just isn't motivated by money at this point in his life/career. Given the music he's made during the past 15 years, it's also not hard to imagine that his tastes are varied enough that he doesn't feel motivated to do an entire night of Zep music -- and it's well known that he lost his ability to hit those high notes a long time ago.
