Wounded Paw - Attack Goat Bass Fuzz

So, I went to try one of these out in Toronto...

I walked all the way from Dufferin and Queen West to Paul's Boutique (T.O. just got hit with a snow storm so parking downtown was even more of a nightmare).

Lo and behold they had one Attack Goat left! Went to try it out and it didn't work :eek:something wrong with the wiring or some such thing.

The guys working there told me they had just sold another one and that it sounded great.

I was so bummed out :( It sure looked nice though.

Heh...I drove from Hamilton to TO on Saturday for a rehearsal...that was fun...

Anyway, I like the look of the Attack Goat; really clean for what it sounds like. Definitely sounds heavier than a Sovtek Big Muff judging by that clip.

Wounded Paw, do you test all your pedals before they go to retail/sale?

Hmm, I'm very interested in this pedal. I love that it has a built in blend. And the clones, that's pretty awesome. Hmmm, I wonder if I could get an Electric Mistress, in a small box, with TB and no volume/bass loss. Hmmm time to email.

I went into Paul's to investigate and the pedal that was there works fine. The main guy for the store said that no one tried it out while he was working that weekend so it must have been another salesman. I don't know if he tried it with an adaptor or bothered to check if there was a battery in it but there's nothing wrong with the pedal that's there. I think it's now been sold but I'm restocking the store in a cupla days with 3 more units and yes, I do test everything out before it goes anywhere.

Okay here's another quick sample. This is from a live Murdersquad recording at a small bar and yes I'm more than a little drunk while playing so just listen for the tone please.

It's '73 Fender P (with pick) -> Attack Goat with blend about middle, tone towards the flat end (not much mid scoop), drive just about full and volume midways -> Ampeg SVT-3Pro with lots of pre-amp gain and midrange knob way up -> Ampeg 810 -> D112 mic -> Mackie mixer -> MOTU 2408mk3 AD converter -> PC using Nuendo software

im digging the live clip much more that the earlier one. i have a few questions, as I may consider buying this when I get my tax stimulus money.

Was the first clip recorded through a cheap amp or something?

Does it work perfectly fine with active basses?

Is this pedal used in the Murdersquad song on your site's player? Cause the bass tone sounds awesome and intrusive there.

Honestly I haven't tried it with an active bass yet. I don't own one and don't have a close pal that plays one.

The first clip was recorded completely DI. Rickenbaker 4001 with one pickup going to -> the Attack Goat with blend way up -> ART MP tube DI -> MOTU 2408mk3 A/D -> computer
Rickenbaker basses have a stereo output with different channels for each pickup which makes for interesting options while recording.
the other pickup on the rickenbaker was going to compressor, etc. and I used the Attack Goat channel to flavour it when mixing but the mp3 posted is just the goat channel. That recording was pre-production for an upcoming project I'm producing, not me playing.

The live clip was me with Murdersquad at a little bar in Toronto. The bass sound on any Murdersquad recording after 2006 is using an Attack Goat or some ancestor thereof. Previously I used a Depth Charge and occasionally a Prunes and Custard with the same old Fender P I've been playing forever.
