BOIIIIIIINNNNNNNNGG!!!!!!!

I know there have been some decenting words spoken about extended range basses here, and I'm really not into all that, and I totally agree with John Turner's sticky post about mutual respect - but seriously how do you find playing these beauties? That's a really gorgeous bass but I just start crapping myself when I see something with so many strings - then when I get over the idea of going off into the highest highs and lowest lows - I just start thinking where would I start - I don't know if I could even slap one of these monsters...that isn't to say I don't admire anyone who can play them properly - I'd love to hear some MP3s of you stuff if you have any.

Cheers M

I'm guessing you're asking how someone approaches playing one of these instruments. I can't speak for everyone, but for me my primary approach is as a bassist (which is as it should be) and all that it entails; foundation, rhythm, etc. The same E, A, D, & G strings are there just like on any other bass.

But it goes beyond that for me as well. As it's been said, these things don't give you "more" notes. All the notes on my new hollow 8 string can be found on any 4 string out there. What it fundamentally does is afford me more ways in which to "enhance" the music that I play through deep sub bass notes, as well as through increased chordal, harmonic and tapping range.

Pick up the Lord Only CD from JT. That'll give you one example of these basses in action. Also Jean Baudin's band, Nuclear Rabbit. Hopefully my band Lychesis, will have our debut CD ready soon which will offer another interpretation on these instruments and their place and use in modern music.

Hope this helped.

:)

I've got two MP3's of Lord Only's "Fear and Trembling" CD. It's really, really intense, the bass is awesome (the range is very well used) and it's easily one of the first times I've ever heard an ERB not used for jazz, and definitely the first time I've heard it used so well. I'd love to pick up the actual CD, but my parents are really skeptical about buying anything online :/.

Anyone got another favourite connnklin?!? I love JTs multiple wood fretboards. And I like Al Cadlwell ( Have no Idea how to spell that ) his hollows are beauts.
Thanks
Troy

Call me old fashioned (or not, but whatever)...but i absolutely love JT's black 7 string with the maple fretboard (wasnt that an anniversary model or something?). Its so simple, but so sleek at the same time.

On the other hand, i just saw this one upon which i had to run to the little boys room quite quickly....
