Double Bass WTX-260 vs. Micro 300 vs. other options (Micro amp deathmatch)

Im hopeing to get my hands on a micro-amp for jazz and other types of gigs. i play a Carved top Salano bass with a realist pickup and some electric bass guitars. i mostly play with a 6 peice jazz group that has sax, trumpet, piano, guitar, bass and drums. i want soemthing really small/light that i can put in my kolstein bass bag. the choices i've concidered so far are:

EA Micro 300
Eden WTX-260
preamp (specifically "bass buddy")+ Bose Packlite

there's soo many options

The Eden is a nice little amp, but it isn't the best choice for DB. I think it has a nice warm tone at low volume, but when cranked a bit, it is too aggressive and the preamp has no tools to help tame feedback. The Bass knob is centered at 30 hz, about an octave too low to work with DB, IMO. I much prefer the AI Clarus I seriesIII for DB. They are actually the same size, the Clarus being a bit wider, but not as deep as the Eden.
Just buy a Clarus and be done with it.

Hard to argue with AI for DB.

Other than that ... I double, and am loving my Genz Benz head, a NeoPak 3.5. It's light, but not a micro amp. The new Shuttle 3.0 and 6.0 are micro amps, though, and I'm very interested in trying them out. They share a feature that I really like on my NeoPak, the semiparametric mid controls. And the bass freq center is 80 hz, which imho works very well.

The new heads and combos look really promising for DB. I'm really interested in the little 1x8" and 1x10" Shuttle 3.0 combos they have, at 13.5 pounds and 18 pounds.

But if it was a choice between the AI and the Eden for DB, I'd choose AI 10 times out of 10. Okay, okay, 11 times out of 10.

Consider getting a used AI Clarus SL or ask Bob Gollihur about getting one on special order from Acoustic Image. I'm far happier with my SL than I ever was with either of the two Micro 300s I went through. Even if I put the Micro 300 problems aside, I much prefer the sound of the SL. It has a darker sound that better compliments brighter cabs like the Wizzy 10.

I think that the reason you would want to look at Claris is it's functionality. It's the only Double Bass amp that has a 1 megohm input, switchable notch/lo cut filters DI and Combo Input Jacks and Speakon speaker connectors. If it's a little to pricey the GK MBS is a very reasonable amp. It's missing the notch/lo cut filters and Combo Input Jacks though.

The GK has also 1Mohm input. Acording to my experience, the MBE is better for double bass (comparing to MBS) for three reasons:
1. has parametric mids (useful for dialing out unwanted frequencies / feedback/ resonances)
2. has less bass when the low cut switch is off which I find better
3. has XLR out AFTER EQ - invaluable tool, you don't need to kill the soundguy to cut the f...ing trebles, for instance.

I had to check this w/ Rick. Actually the preamps in the Clarus, the SL and the Focus are all the same.

In the SIII they dropped the brite control. But he said with the EQ set flat, the preamps should sound identical. Just like Wilbyman said.
