XLR and DC power in one cable

Is that an open-weave strain-relief in the pic above? I'm curious about how durable you find this arrangement.

It's just a basic 2.1mm power connector from the local electronics shop. The moulding on the end is just a weave, and because it's bent, it shows the colours of the cable inside. The connector is just soldered on, and the outer screwed on. I used heat shrink as you can see you double insulate the cable.




Do you ever have trouble with the leads pulling out on the power supply end, or have you found locking connectors?

The connectors are just a good interference for each other. I normally double the lead over and use a velcro strip you coil it up with to tether it.

There wouldn't be any noise problem running the power and audio in one cable - it's DC.

5-wire mic line would work then. If it's that simple I wonder why you don't see it more often? Custom cables are a pain when they go bad I guess....

25 foot will be perfect. I think I'll call Digiflex and ask if they can modify a quad XLR cable to add a dc male/female plug on each end.

Markertek will make just about any sort of cable you can conceive of.

I have this for my wired IEM and would like something similar for DI and power: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] but with XLR and 2.1mm plugs

Rocksolid’s solution is pretty cool. But since you don’t seem to be up to a DIY soldering project, you could get a mic cable and the power cable you need and feed them both through some Techflex. Stretch the Techflex tight, wrap some electrical tape over the Techflex onto the two cables to keep the former from slipping, then put some heat shrink over the taped section. Voila, you have a custom cable with the two ends you need. Here’s an idea what it would look like, but without the tape / heat shrink
