Correct. Pre is not the only way. Post is not the only way. After the OP's more detailed reply on his playing situation, and given that he likes the idea of the Ampeg SCR-DI, I was thinking that he might as well consider the Ampeg BA combos (BA115 or BA210) ... but then I realized that they also only have line outs, vs a true DI. Again, not a big deal as long as you know how your amp works, but still somewhat limiting if you are a knob twiddler during gigs.
To those advocating pre-EQ DI, why would that be any better than just a standalone DI ?
FWIW, I have used a Mesa Walkabout for years and have been totally satisfied with its post-EQ only DI .. as have all sound techs and recording engineers who have worked with the input from the WA. Just saying that pre-EQ DI is not the only way to go.
Thanks for posting that. Lots of good info and insight to what the Rumbles are all about. The bottom line I get from my experience with my Rumble 500 combo, and the Rumble posts linked here, is that Master Volume changes are less than feared, sometimes not even noticed, and the post EQ is often appreciated by veteran soundmen.
