Recognizing notes, sure. Accurately playing a low low B octave at 15 Hz ? Riiight.

The question was about tracking, not whether or not the lowest notes/harmonics were audible.

FWIW, my Micro-Pog's lower octave tracks flawlessly all the way down, but yes, the audiblility of the notes begins to vanish below a certain range.

RE: Deep Impact.
Audible? Debatable depending on amp. Gargly? Not at all. You might want to pay more attention to my actual (and your original) point.

I never tried the XO Bass Micro Synth... I gather it is strictly monophonic.

I don't have the new BMS yet, but I assume if it's like the other one that it will sound best with single note. "Strictly monophonic" is probably too strong but "polyphony messes with the tracking big time" speaks to the issue.

I wouldn't call the BMS "strictly monophonic". It depends on the complexity of the chord you are playing. I find that my BMS tracks just fine when I am playing root-fifth chords and the like. But if you're throwing in different harmonies, it might have trouble. If you go to my myspace page in my signature and listen to the song "A Lesson in Evil", the lead in that song is simply my bass through the BMS, and the whole song is basically chords. It tracks fine, although it gets a little bubbly on the weird harmonies (which I thought sounded cool, and that's why we recorded it)

Thanks, good to hear. We actually have several more songs in the pipeline, but between the two of us each working 60 hour weeks lately, its tough to get in studio time.

Not necessarily - The voltage could be raised internally to 24V.

So... has anyone measured up the insides of the XO version to see if there's space to add an expression pedal jack? I think that could be the deciding factor for if I buy this or not.

which parameter would you want to use an expression pedal with? if you want to blend the overall effected signal with your dry signal, an expression input isn't the only (or even necessarily the best) way to go.

Nah, I'll be getting a VFB-X for that. I think it's the cutoff frequency that people modded their old style Micro Synths to have the expression pedal control over.

The manual was essentially the same as the old one. Mine actually had something copied over a portion of it. It didn't include sample settings, but when I emailed EHX about it they emailed them to me. I might still have the email if anyone wants them, let me know.
