Xover Point

Calling all tech gurus,
At what xover point (roughly) is there equal wattage going through both the highs and lows? It seems a lot of people (myself included) who biamp are using stereo amps and just crossing over and an arbitary point, whereas maybe the wattage could be put to better use if both sides of the amp where driving equal loads.

I'd think you want to give a lot more power to the lows. Besides, more watts isn't going to be helpful if you're not sending the appropriate frequencies to the appropriate speakers. No point in sending 80 Hz to your tweeter because you feel it's not getting enough exercise.

Totally with you on that one. I was hoping to use the "halfway point crossover" as a basis to design my next diy system.

if you are using like a 410 and 15 or 18 then i would cross it over @ 100 hz or so .. 210 with 15 or 18 @ 150 ... if you are using 8" mids or smaller , you need to read the freq response of the speaker and cross it over according to that ...... 300 hz will put a LOT of mids into the sub and probably wont be efficient at all and sound muddy or boomy .... and also will not put enough low mids into the upper cab ..... think of it like a personal p.a. system ....
