Xsonics 212cf review and comparison

I could be wrong but what I got out of the OP & Rev's input was that the Glasstone cab was a very early model that had a defective seal on the front baffle.

I don't think the general TB community can draw a fair comparison of the two products based on those facts.

Not the OP's fault & I appreciate his input, but it is what it is.
I'm still interested in comparisons between these two cabs though.

If the build quality of the lil g has changed , that's fine with me either way I don't think the build of the cabinet had to much to do with its sound quality. The two cabs although similar in some ways they are not apples to apples . So to speak.

I appreciate the candidness of the review... you are allowed to like what you like and in your opinion you liked this one not that one... That is why there are choices. If others prefer the lil g over the Xsonics then they would have obviously played them side by side as you have to reach that opinion. And for them that would be valid.

If air was escaping around the front baffle seal then that could affect the sound quality.
If you bought it used then was that baffle issue because of the build quality or something that happened in possession of the original owner?

drslglass said yours was a 1st generation and that most of them had been upgraded. Does that have anything to do with a defective baffle? I don't know; maybe so / maybe not.

Comparing a defective Lil G to a latest spec Xsonics doesn't seem to me to be a valid comparison. That is all I was trying to say.

You did not know that it was defective, so all is good.

I don't own either cab so I have no agenda here other than trying to get a clear understanding of the comparison.

I am interested in both cabs and am hoping to come across a valid comparison of two representative cabs from each builder.

I just wanted to point out to the general TB folks that you probably did not get the same results that a person should get comparing two of the latest cabs from the two builders.

Xsonics cabs have gone through some revisions as apparently has Glasstones.

As far as the lil g being defective, I never said that. I just personally didn't feel the build quality was on par with the xsonics. I didn't like the idea of removable parts like there was on the lil g. If every thing isn't tight and solid you have a harder time achieving a true resonate frequency within the cabinet itself. As far as how long ago the lil g was built I don't know For sure .The original owner said some time in January so that wasn't really that long ago. As far as xsonics goes I am pretty sure that the ones sold have not changed , he has posted pictures of early prototypes but as far as i know these were for his personal testing and weren't sold to the public. What he is putting out now is what he has confidence in . I don't know any manufacture out there that gives you a 72 hour test drive , other than xsonics . Everyone has tonal needs that only they themselves as individuals can discern what they like and dislike . I love the xsonics 212cf it is clean ,articulate and can handle gobs of power and IMO and IME will cover all my tonal needs and more. Someone else could A B them and have a different conclusion , this was just mine . I have never told anyone to go buy either one . I just simply stated what was the winner for me . If I would have never heard an xsonics maybe the lil g would have been ok but I dont think so and i would still be on a quest for a one cab solution to fill my needs , i am a gigging bassist ! I have been playing bass for 31 years now and two years ago was doing it for a living , I worked that year about 200 nights in a pro west coast casino band . And on average I play 100 plus gigs a year . So I am passionate about sounding the way I need to . Xsonics is filling the bill quite nicely for me.
As far as the lil g being a prototype I don't thing so . Most manufactures don't sell prototypes . But I don't think even if the baffle was leaking air it wouldnt kill the cabs ability to put fourth what it is trying to achieve. after all the lil g is a ported cabinet so the difference isn't as big a deal as if it were a sealed cab.

Thanks bassist , I am going to enjoy it to no end.
And here again I hate to go back into discussing the lil g I know the rev chimed in and said it was a first generation cab and since then he has made changes. But also being a first generation cabinet it was sold to a customer and then another me, and apparently the removable baffle wasn't that big an issue or the original owner would have maybe gotten a recall letter from glasstone saying , hey I've made some changes and your cab may have some issues I really need to get it back and upgrade it for you because after all it is my rep on the line . It is apparent to me that that didn't take place. just saying that's all

This thread is a rollercoaster; enjoy the ride!

One last comment before I exit the thread (at least until someone does a comparison between two latest generation versions from both these builders).

At this point, people should know that the OP's comparison was either between a 1st generation Glasstone Lil G and a latest generation Xsonics 212cf...
OR
between a defective 1st generation Glasstone Lil G and a latest generation Xsonics 212cf.

That's all I wanted to get out there.

The readers can make up their own minds. What you decide makes no difference to me.

Thank you all (including johnnybass01) and Goodnight!

i know this is a 212 thread but have you tried the 215 yet// Someone somewhere beside Dennis Micheals must have...
Also Xonics 212, What other cab could you compare it to as far as volume that you are used to in the past? a 410 or 610... Is it more Sealed cab tightness or ported cab type tone....

The b string is probably the most important thing to me . Modern music seems to require it and I like my brubaker to sound as it should and the xsonics brings that through with flying colors.and it transitions throughout the range seamlessly .
