Xsonics 212cf review and comparison

It was a GB 212T NX2 at Xsonics. The newer model. No brainer for me. The 212CF got louder than the NX2 and stayed tighter on my B-string and it was half the size and like 5 pounds lighter. It came with a cover so I bought it on the spot. Probably 20 gigs with it by now and it's the bomb! Two 12's with a tweeter.:bassist:

Did yours take awhile to break in like Dennis's 212cf ?

I will be using my xsonics cf212 at three different venues a 200 capacity room on Friday a 300 capacity room Saturday night and an outdoor venue on Sunday afternoon that is the bigger one maybe 350 , I have a great deal of confidence that it will handle it all nicely. As far as the speakers opening up so to speak. I think that happened within the hours I played mine on my first gig . And it this point it just sounds great .

i know this is a 212 thread but have you tried the 215 yet// Someone somewhere beside Dennis Micheals must have...
Also Xonics 212, What other cab could you compare it to as far as volume that you are used to in the past? a 410 or 610... Is it more Sealed cab tightness or ported cab type tone....

My 215cf is a major HOSS. Brass balls that drag the ground.

Though much of my stuff just completely confuses the standard "Guitar Center" musicians seeing it. Nothing wrong with that stuff, but I always get questions like "what kinda bass is that, 'Lakland", and what kinda cab is that, 'Xsonics' - oh" - "Genz Benz, are you sure there is 600 watts in that little thang?".

I've had those same experiences, and for the ones who are a pain in the rear, I usually have some smart-@ssed responses.

Typical conversations:

Looking at my upright bass, "Is that a cello?" :spit:
"No, it's an upright bass."
*dumb look*
"You know, a bass fiddle, doghouse bass, bull fiddle. Gotta think jazz, big band, etc."
"Oh yeah." Still with dumb look.

Lady at Sacramento Airport (she was the 5th person to ask what I was wheeling around in that big fiberglass case):
"What is that? A cello?"
Our guitar player says (while giving her a sshhh gesture), "No. That's his ex-mother-in-law, Bertha." She quickly moved on.

"Hey, man... Cool bass. Never heard of Lack Land."
"It's Lak(e)-Land, and it has the best B string in the business."
"Really?"
"Yes, or I wouldn't own it."
"Oh!"

"Never seen a BLUE speaker like that before."
"Xsonics. 900 watts. It's a 215."
"X what?"
"Xsonics. Made in the USA by a bass player. The real deal. You could knock walls down with it."
"Aw Cool! What did it cost you?"
"If you have to ask, then it's too much."

"Is that little thing your amp?"
"Yes, Genz Benz Streamliner 900. All-tube amp that weighs 6lbs and delivers 900 watts."
"900 watts? In that little thing?"
"All day long."
"How?"
"Dude, I didn't design it, I just play it." :D

if I had a 100 pound head I would definately have a 50 pound 215

Weight isnt the most important factor for me. I have more than a few options that are light and loud. I also already have a light weight 215 on order.

That said, the 2155cf is an interesting design. It might be the only 3015 mid loaded cab, that has the option to be run full range, or crossed over. It doesnt hurt that the faital mid used in it is one of the best out there. No real need for a tweeter, as it goes stupid high.

That mid is so smooth too, it does not dominate the sound at all. It still amazes me that I can run it full range with tweet maxed and it is not clanky or have an over the top treble response. Course I have flats on, but I have had situations where they exhibit unwanted tone through a cab with a lot of high end response - they can get the clack. Not with this cab, smooth, deep, defined and powerful.

How would you characterize the mids when comparing the 2155Cf with the mid driver off vs on? I know those 3015's have something going on in the upper mids that the faital should mask when being run.

Sure, there are several threads going, but I think all the same people are in each one. I will try to start posts about the mid over there as well. CL400, you are right there is definitely a difference in tone, I only wish I knew how to describe it as I am not as good with really knowing what frequencies I am or am not hearing. To me I find it much more smooth with the mid on. Though, I must admit I need some more time with it to really get a good idea - last gig I never got around to switching it into two way to test.

I think the real draw of the 2-way/3-way switch is being able to have two different midrange voicings, 3015 full range or crossed at 1500 hz to the Faital mid. It should make that cab (and the smaller 2125CF) quite versatile.

I can't say either way how much affect the mid is going to have , nick seems thing it smooths it out a bit . And that's cool . I am really digging my 212cf it is just killing it , I really like it to say the least. I think I will eventually try out the 2125cf . I don't think I will ever need the 215cf probably to much for my needs . I haven't pushed the 212cf near its limits in a gig situation yet.
