Xsonics 2155CF First Impressions

For individuals I get a chance to speak with directly I will certainly extend the trial period longer than 3 days if that's what we need for a comfort level. I absolutely do not want anyone keeping an Xsonics cabinet they don't enjoy playing through !

I really like buying from small businesses. I just pulled the trigger and will try the trial period to see if this works for me. Have fingers crossed and hoping for an all purpose, most any genre type rig. :bassist:

We have two 2155CF's ready to ship. One black, one cobalt blue. Both with the selectable crossover and upgrade tilt back casters. Usually not more than a week wait. Hand wiring of the crossovers takes quite a bit of additional time, especially the selectable version!

Those are the considerations that are well worth the wait IMHO. Off the shelf cross overs are built to a very specific price point and go through some limited quality control. Custom cross overs are hugely important, and having someone know the ins and outs of what they are building/trouble shooting makes all the difference.

Thanks CL400Peavey. I had planned on making the "selectable crossover" an option for a small upcharge but I've decided to make it standard equipment along with the tilt back recessed casters. I'm trying to minimize confusion to others and to me!

Your input has been appreciated!

I have just seen people complain about a mid loaded cab, only to find out the cab they have uses some off the shelf POS. You get what you pay for.

Even if a few things like the additional work on the cross over and casters add a bit to your price, anyone who is shelling out for a amazing custom cab should realize that its the attention to these details that make the purchase worth it, and are exactly where you dont want to cheap out.

I just have to say that Nick has been nothing but fantastic to work with. He really does seem to care about the consumers happiness and his desire to offer a fantastic product at the same time. One of the reasons I have purchased GB stuff, Thunderfunk, A Designs and other hand made small company products. You do pay more, but I really believe there is finally starting to be more awareness that you really do get what you pay for and appreciate it even more when you get great service and can actually call up the owner and give your input for future business desicions.
Thanks Nick, I am looking forward to giving your creation a whirl.

That is a big part of why I went with the cabs I did. I get a call or two from greenboy, and I was able to pick Dave Homer's brain about options. Customer service matters, and that is what you get from these smaller guys. If I have a chunk of cash to spend, I dont need to get ignored standing around in GC waiting for some twerp to try and upsell me something that is **** anyways.

I'm in tone heaven. :)

I gotta say, I prefer the cabs with the midrange driver on. But that may change when I take these cabs to rehearsal and see how they sit in the mix. I might like the extra bite of the 15's in the mids.

I still haven't tried my Gretsch through these yet. The Gretsch is a growly instrument on its own. So much to do yet... :)

So you do find the Faital mid a little smoother than the 3015's on their own?

OK, I finally got to jam with these big boys with the band. Two 2155CF's, WT-1205, and my Gretsch G2220. I set the cabs up for 1.5KHz crossover; mid driver ON, mid and tweeter pads at 12 o'clock.

Setting the EQ flat, no enhance, bass boost ON, the two 2155CF's put out the same low end as four D210XST's, but with a lot more mids. (And the cabs were about four or five feet away from a wall, compared to the D210XST's sitting next to a wall.) Not boomy at all, just well balanced.

And they get loud - during one song, I cranked it up until the limit LEDs were blinking (~500 watts per side on the peaks) and the cabs handled them with ease. I heard no sign of breakup or compression.

These are just the replacement for the four D210XST's I was looking for - just as loud, with better power handling and much lighter. I get better midrange, too; no problem hearing me in the mix. :)

Happy Day at Xsonics RockNRollAl !!! I too have been able to replace 100 pound cabinets with 40 pounders and I've lose nothing in terms of loudness but gained clarity and sparkle.

Thank you sooo much for your faith and confidence in Xsonics! Rock on! I think I heard you here in Chicago over the weekend too!
