I am not an engineer or rocket scientist... I am a bass player. When the idea of a 215 was launched I challenged Xsonics.com to build me a 215CF cabinet that did NOT exist /prior to our conversation. Nick is a bass players cabinet builder...i.e. he listens to what "players" want and tries to make them happy... He is a great guy that tries to make people happy. The 215CF is a dream cabinet for me. He tells me the 2155CF is really amazing. I believe him because he hasn't been wrong yet... He is easy to talk to about tone and tonal vision. He also busts his ass to make you happy with his cabinets. MY GOD it is nice to go back to an "Old School" mentality when it comes to bass cabinets and reality.

I looked at the 2155CF model on the Xsonics website and remember the comment that the Eminence 3015 really doesn't need the mids. I think this is not a case of needing a mid driver but rather, having the potential of providing another voice for the cab. Since the base configuration of 3015 drivers + tweeter with 4kHz crossover seems to work well, why not leave that intact and install a 2nd crossover for a 3015 drivers + Faital mid alignment with a switch to select one or the other rather than setting it up as a traditional 3-way. These will have noticeably different mid/treble voicing and should provide 2 flavors of good. Not knowing the lo/mid crossover details I think it would be safe to assume somewhere between 1-1.5 kHz. The 3015 has a bit of signature grind in the mids between 1.5-2.5kHz. Crossing the Faital 5" below this should provide a little smoother and sweeter mids with better off-axis dispersion which tops out just over 6kHz - plenty for bass guitar. The original 2-way voicing is a winner but for those looking for the option of a tweeterless version with more extended highs than the 3015 alone this might be sweet. I started a thread exploring the Eminence 3015/Faital 5" mid idea but it occurred to me the Xsonics 2155CF might be an ideal canvas to try this out.

Wow 5StringPocket, you're right on target. I have shipped 2 of the Xsonics 2155CF's exactly as you describe and have a third for myself. My crossover allows for both 2-way and 3-way operation with the flick of a switch along with L-pads on the 5" mid and tweeter to allow for almost limitless listening/playing configurations.

Great minds think alike! HaHa!

Excellent, just what I was hoping to hear! This really looks like the Rolls Royce of the Xsonics line. How do you like the 3015/Faital mid voicing? I'm definitely interested in one of these but need to sell a few things first to raise some cash. I'll be in touch.

This 215 really seems to have met the challenge. I'm an engineer who loves to play bass and enjoys designing and building cabs so sometimes we speak a different language, but its all about great tone and a good form factor you can work with. I've learned a lot from reading and my last 4 project builds about how to design for different tone profiles but really enjoy the gig reports from players like yourself knocking it out week after week as to what works well on the job. I had a build in mind which I think would have been a good one but I'm going with Nick on this one and will likely thin the herd if it works out as well as I think.

If you take a quick look at my profile you'll see I've owned just about everything out there in terms of powerful compact cabinets and I'm a pro player gigging 2-6 nights per week. The 2155CF has no rival. I am absolutely delighted with the 5" Faital mid driver in the Xsonics cabinet. If a player has the extra funds I seriously doubt anyone would regret going with the 5" Faital mid. I was never a real 3-way guy but this one does it for me!!!!!!!

Considering the fact that I have been using the 2 way 215cf for a few weeks and isn't missing anything... I am very interested in the 3 way with 5 . Nick has not been wrong yet with the 15's so I am interested... He told me "you don't think anything is missing till you hear the 2155cf". I love my 2 way, but is 3 way better? I need to know.

Recieved my 2155cf today and all looks to be in good condition with no shipping damages. Have to wait until this evening after work before I can give it a go and make sure it is working - nice plus is I have full band practice tonight as well so will get to hear it at some lower levels within a mix at least.

Cool Fretlessoy - it is a great cab, I am still getting my head wrapped around it though. Last night only allowed me some time with the band in a small room, so hard to see its real potential. I will write more later this morning, but for starters;
- it gets loud, as all have said
- it is real punchy and goes plenty low for me
- it fits behind the seat of my Nissan Frontier pickup :hyper:
- I definitely like it with the 5" mid than without

More in a little while,
