Yacht Rock?! Who has experience.

I think Pablo Cruise "Love Will Find a Way" is probably the quintessential Yacht tune. One I don't see on Yachty set lists much is "How Long" by Ace, which is a shame 'cause it's such a great track!

Yeah, Paul Carrack a bit undersung, imo. His "Tempted" with Squeeze might sorta fit too. Here's Paul with a killer band showing how it's done. Don't fire this drummer!

I always thought of Yacht Rock as Pop Rock ... my younger brothers' music. I liked it alright, in a sort of background way, had my head into jazz and wasn't really paying much attention to the radio back then. I didn't dislike it, but I like it more now. Never been in a band that could really play it.

Man, I used to like Pablo Cruise back in the day (and still do). The thick sound of the drums, the slight echo on the vocals, the nuanced guitar work, the vocal harmonies. Good stuff...

And old sailboats are a great place to record music. Wood interior with no flat surfaces.

I have played Tempted in the past. It's a great song for a bass player!

Lots of good music in that genre. I pull up a yacht rock playlist on my phone, activate my Bose bluetooth speakee, and plug into my amp and jam along. Lots of fun bass parts.

I saw the original lineup of Pablo Cruise in NYC when their hit song was just released. They were opening act for someone??
Bass player had a natural P bass with rosewood board with a big feather hanging off the headstock. Folded horn cabinet..
Great performance by them.

True - Yachty by Nature and the other one - can't remember the name of them - are in So Cal - I'm also in So Cal & I've been putting up ads in Musicans Contact Service and CL looking for a keyboard player and lead singer(s) - one male / one female vocalist would be ideal, but...not finding anybody that's interested. I have several drummers and a guitar player already. I've been digging the Hindley Street Country Club on youtube - they're in Australia - I'd love to be in a band like this! I'm sure others have seen these guys / gals. My current cover band does the occasional yacht rock song - Baby Come Back is one, but we do a lot of other styles too. My goal is to do yacht rock only! Not sure if I'll be able to put anything together, but I'm still looking for members to do a start up.

Check out a couple of Atlanta bands. Yacht Rock Review(YRR) and Yacht Rock Schooner. Review started around Atl and have become a traveling band. They have a big following do an Annual Yacht Rock Revival where they have original artist come perform with YRR its a big event. YRR also opened a restaurant/venue, Vinkmans, several years ago. They started kind of jokingly and have turned it into a real business.
