I never said anything about a tone change coming from the capacitor... I was commenting on how the swap allowed me to use the full range of both pots, making them more useful.

Had some issues with a couple of the tuners, but got them resolved today, as far as I can tell. It seemed as though no matter what I did to the tension screws on the tuners, they were either too loose or too tight. A couple of the tuners had way to much play in them, allowing me to move the tuner peg a good 1/4 inch in either direction before the gear would engage and alter the pitch. I was about ready to give up and find a set of ultralites, but gave them another shot. For some reason, disassembling the tuners completely, then reassembling them, only tightening the screws until they give some resistance, really fixed the problem. All the tuners are working properly, and smoothly, with the right amount of tension. If anyone else is having an issue, try this and see if it helps.

Measured the weight of my BB425 compared to my MIM jazz from 1996. The BB was approx. 9.1 lbs while the jazz weighed in at 9.0 lbs. Using the travel scale hanging from the garage rafter.

Put the original strings back on but have ordered some D'Addario ENR71-5SL Half Rounds Super Long Scale Light 5-String Bass Strings.

Guitar center is having a labor day sale with 15% off but apparently the BB is not included in the 15% discount items.

Sorry about the mixup earlier about string spacing, not as wide as my trb...more like my jazz. But the neck is really stable, you can feel that from the first time playing it.

Hello again,

as long as I have the bug to post thought I would show a picture of my system. Kustom charger cabinet w/ altec lansing 421a driver recently reconed driven by my swr baby blue II head modified in a chassis to mimic the walter woods look. This together w/ my Acoustic Control 126 linked in stereo by my Boss gt-6b floor effect unit. The line noise is minimal.

That is Tiger on the floor, (or Tigger as he might be known) listening to a Mozart Piano sonata on the local NPR morning classic music radio program. (N0, I don't listen to news from anyone including NPR).

So...any particular brand of volume/tone pots? I love simple mods, and I really want that neck pup to give me a solid P tone.

I got the tobacco burst 425, and it plays like a dream. Came with no tension on the strings, and no relief in the neck! So, I tuned it up and let it sit for a few days, not I can let some truss rod out and set it up for E flat playing.

I like the front pickup overall, it sounds very good through my Acoustic B600H and 115. Weird thing is, the B string doesn't project like the others while on the neck pup, but the bridge pup seems totally even. I'm thinking maybe a high mass Hipshot bridge would help this out, as the stock one has the B string set back.

I'll use it this weekend, as my band is playing 3 nights in a row, in one place. Nice chance to A/B it with my G&L El Toro.

BTW, I named it Burt, because the sunburst reminds me of Burt Renolds sunglasses in Smokey and the Bandit lol

Not sure what brand the pots are... I bought them a while back for another bass, I think from Best Bass Gear, but it may have been somewhere else. I do know that I had to make the mounting holes slightly larger to accomodate the new pots.

I noticed the issue with the B string as well, also on the neck pickup. I adjusted the height of the pickups, so that they are about 2/32" from the higher strings and about 3/32" from the lower strings. Seems to have evened it out nicely.

I also want to someday swap the bridge for a Hipshot A-style brass bridge, as I love those bridges- they're super solid, and infinitely adjustable, and just look plain cool. My particular bass is slightly neck heavy, so i think a heavy bridge will help alleviate that. I wonder if any of the stock holes line up with a Hipshot bridge?

The weight seems less than my TRB1005 that was around 9.5. I suppose it varies a bit between basses, even the same model.

I just did some futzing with the pups. Brought the bridge pup down quite a bit, and now the B string seems to be on par with the rest of them, when using the front pick up. Perhaps that heapin' strong magnet in the bridge is pulling on the B?

Seems more balanced now, I'm happy. :)

I'll get some pics this weekend, and give it a thorough test drive, and report back!

I'm seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on this... I've got my 7 that I play almost all the time, but sometimes it'd be nice to be able to pull out a simple 5, especially when I need to slap/pop, which can get a bit hairy on the 7 to say the least.... How's the slap tone on these?
