If I was bother, I would use a set of Nordstrands instead of bothering the with the Yamaha's. Than again - I would (and did) just buy a BBP instead. There's more to the upgrade than electronics.

Just wanted to say...

I’m recording a bunch of songs for an indie folk artist this week. It’s my first session with the Yamaha BB435 in the arsenal and it’s sick. I’ve got thousands of dollars of basses and this one punches so far above its weight class. Honestly, if I had to sell all my basses it might be the one I’d keep. So versatile. Would highly recommend these BB basses to anyone.

I have six basses. My very first one was a Yamaha BBN5 that I bought at a pawn shop for $275 back in 1998. My bass instructor actually had the exact same bass but with soapbars and active electronics. He recommended Bartolini 18 volt, which Mike Lull installed for me. I've since put flat wounds on it. It's still my favorite bass. It's not particularly pretty (I prefer painted bodies), but I don't care.

Not particularly pretty? Ever since I first saw them in the mid 90s, I always thought they were particularly good looking basses. Understated in a way that inspires trust.

Guys who say they can't stand a PJ setup never say that after they buy a Yamaha.

I’m sure this is true based on the BBs I’ve tried in stores, and I really should get over my (completely irrational, I admit) dislike of PJs, but I really wish Yamaha would offer a straight P again like the old BB200/300/400. Call it the BBBB: Bare-Bones Broad Bass.

Since I discover Yamaha, is my favourite brand for sure. I currently have a BB414, BBP34 (my favourite bass) and a BB735. I used to have a BB605 and it was a pretty amazing 5 string bass.

Had one, loved it, you’ll be shocked how much better the BBP35 (Japan built version) is. The bridge pick up on the 435 is kind of a crime given the rest of the instrument.
