yamaha blue jeans bass!

That picture is actually part of a originally much bigger collection by someone who posts on a different forum. If you need to contact him about them (Yamaha SBV 500s and a few others) you can contact him via his website, he is also a part time luthier.

Wow. I can see I'm going to have to help you fellas out.

The Yamaha Blue Jeans bass, including the one from the link Invalid Link Removed is a bass yamaha made in the 60's, from what I can tell. The one in this ad is a 1966, selling for the equivalent of 1,436.57 USD

The instruments currently being made by Yamaha are:
the SBV-500: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
the SBV-550: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

and the SBV 800MF: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Priced at the equivalent of 384.79 USD, 410.44 USD and 684.08 USD, respectively.

I understand a lot of guys order from Ishibashi to have the instruments sent to the US, here are the links for these basses:

(price 344.77 USD)

I could only find in-Japan shops selling the SBV-800MF, but could look some more, if someone was specifically interested.

Ishibashi should be able to order the 800 even though they don't have it listed on their site. I bought a guitar from them early this year and just gave them the model number & related info. They ordered it from ESP (Edwards) and shipped it as soon as it came in. Ikebe would probably also be able to do the same, but last time I checked they didn't accept credit cards from overseas buyers (just bank transfers which have fees). Anyway, I almost hate to admit it, but I'm kinda digging the SBV-800MF. :)

But I dont understand japanese, so I dont know how to register an account there to buy it. :(

I keep my ear to the ground for the 5 String version......must have been a custom as I have never seen another again....I dig the shape/vibe

Eric-

On the Ishibashi home page (if you find a link to the site but not the home page, a link to the home page is on the upper right and it says "Home Page" in English), go to the very bottom.

Click on the link that says ENGLISH.

Now scroll to the bottom of the that page and click on the "Go To the Translated Page" link. :)

Those are sweet basses; I've wanted one for a long time! If they're that cheap, I may have to order one!

i was researching these pretty heavily about a year and a half ago, and didn't ever make much progress. i found a single guy on this board that was will to part with one, but as i recall, it was pretty beat up. but now that i have a little money and am considering getting a new bass, i might just go the ishibashi route.

though my question is this, i've not ever found any reviews A/B'ing the Jazz(500 model) and the Jazz/Precision(550). anyone have any info at all?

oh, and one other question, since this is a Yamaha thread. About a year or two ago, musiciansfriend was blowing out these low end yamaha 4-strings that looked like the newer nathan east artist series, but just, well, low end. i can't remember what they were called, anyone know what i'm talking about?\

Very interesting thread, very interesting series of basses! I really like that white 5 string. If you find a source, I will buy one! Seems like the 4's are very reasonably priced.

Most japanese companies I've dealt with will reply to an Email in very good english. I shouldn't have clicked on this thread, it gave me yamagas :)

The SBV-800MF is an artist model. It's Miki Furukawa's bass. Here she is:

I like her picture on the bio page. The bass is "Candy Blue," with black hardware, it "incorporates the nuances" of the '67 Yamaha SB-2A. They seem to mean the body shape, mostly. The bass has a "natural glossy finish neck," with a binding on the sides of the neck. Oh, and the special attention to detail that comes with an artist model bass.

A friend of mine had one of those. It sounded quite good actually, but I could never play the thing cos the ergonomics were all wrong. Neck dived like there was no tomorrow. Have to admit I do like the way it looks tho, but I'd never get one cos of the neck dive. Just way too uncomfortable. Just my 2c.

EDIT: Forgot to add... if they reversed the body so the upper strap button was on the longer horn, I bet that would make it completely playable tho.

Thanks for the link. I put it in my watch list. I'm not wild about that color and was hoping to get one of the P/J configured ones but if the price stays low, I might jump on this one. If I get it, I'll post a review.

update: I am finally going to buy a blue jeans bass, I am getting a silver one with a white pickguard, the people at ishibashi were very nice in helping me find one, however they dont have them listed on their website anymore because they were selling out way to fast, so I guess the only way to buy them now is to email them.

I think that's the nicest color combo. I'm going to Email them as well. If you don't mind me asking, what was price with shipping to the US ??
