Anyone know or got any ideas where I can find the volume/tone knobs - the black plastic ones that are on two of my BBs? My fretless one doesn't have the the original pickups, I had Nordstrand make me a new passive set. And, I wanna lose those gold knobs (I replaced the electronics - EMG Active - and knobs back in the late 80s and can't find the original parts anywhere).
I have this RBX550M and an RBX800A on the way.

Great question. I don't think you can get these parts from Yamaha any more. I need to replace my volume knob on my BB400 and would definitely like an OEM type replacement (clear, black base, with numbers; like Les Paul style).

Yes, I called Yamaha sometime ago and they had no clue. Their old stock only went back about ten years or so.
I did look at the Les Paul knobs as an option, though.
Probably the rarest Yamaha production bass, the BJ 5B
Essentially a 5-string version of the SBV re-issue basses from 10 years ago. Although having said that, apart from the body and headstock shape it has little in common with either the original 60s SB basses or the more recent SBV re-issues, having soapbar pickups and active electronics and an angled headstock. It's the Terry and the Blue Jeans (famous Japanese surf band) signature model - hence the name - with a limited run of 50. I'm guessing that there's a good chance mine is the only one outside of Japan.

My RBX360 was second-hand off eBay for £50 last month, with another £30 to fix a couple of cracks in the headstock and have it properly set up. It now plays like a dream and I'm loving the totally different tones I can get from the P and J pickups.

That looks really nice, the white machineheads really suit the look too. I bet it sounds amazing too.

Thanks! Unfortunately it has a few issues which means that it hasn't seen any time on-stage with my band Link Removed yet.
Firstly it's huge! Since I bought it we've only played one stage that was big enough for me to use it on without the risk of causing damage to the bass, other members of the band or the audience, and that's when I discovered that the case is too large to fit into any car width-ways. Even my Overwater basses which are 36" scale aren't as long overall.
Secondly it's the heaviest bass I own weighing in at a mighty 5.6kg (12.5lbs). This was somewhat of a surprise as the 4-string SBVs that I'd played had all felt a little flimsy and light-weight.
Finally the neck is a rather weird shape being very narrow (42mm) at the nut and then 19mm string spacing at the bridge. I'm pretty tolerant of string spacings and neck profiles. but this one is taking a bit of getting used to.
Apart from these it's a great sounding and looking bass. It's just unfortunate that I doubt I'll be using it for anything other than recording until my band is big enough to play some decent sized stages and has a road crew to allow me to swap basses without breaking the flow of the set!

It looks like it has the same electronics as a TRB5 or TRB5II. It's a cool looking bass!
It's back!
It's almost its birthday: it turns 22 on July 21st. Bought it back today. I used to own it for two months about two years back, but traded it for a fretless TRB. I sold the TRB to afford my Celinder, but I wanted a Precision again. So I got this back for a Squier Standard Stratocaster
