Hi Saxonbass, I am thinking of getting a TRB1006 and wondered if I could ask you a few questions? What are the pickups and electronics like? How is the quality of the finish and where are they made - Korea like the RBX JM2 or Japan? Do you know the string spacing dimensions as well? I hope you can help and look forward to your reply. Thanks to the knowledgeable folks here at TB, I now know that this Yamaha that I've owned for the past ten years is a late 60's/very-early-70's SA-70.

I'm not always sold on the tone of this thing, but there are certainly no complaints about either the look or the feel.

Hi all, I need some help...

It looks like my TRB6II needs some tuner-replacament, as some of them are getting loose.

Could anyone tell me what exact type/model I sholud buy to replace the original japanese ones. If not necessary, i don't want to take to the yamaha dealer, as it would be more expensive i guess...but if there is no other solution, I will.
The originals seem to be like Gotoh tuners.
Anybody any ideas?

Is is impossible to fix the originals? It should be possible to tighten some of the action and parts. I don't know exactly what tuners they are, but I agree that they look like Gotoh GB-7s. The best solution is simply to take off one and use a caliper to measure the dimensions of the tuner and the headstock hole. I'm pretty sure you'll find that they are pretty standard. You could of course upgrade to a better tuner, too, maybe something like the Hipshots. :)

Well, I might consider upgrading... could you explain to my, why hipshots are better than the gotohs please?
I'm afraid fixing is not possible for my tuners (well, there is only one that really needs fixing, the others just seem old as the gold cover looks old on them, scratches, etc, but it is also true for the bridge).

The Hipshots are lighter and has a more even response. But to be honest, there's really not a big reason to upgrade. If I were you, I would most likely have bought one new Gotoh tuner in gold finish and just replace the broken one... :)

Or perhaps stick a hipshot D-tuner in place of the Low E tuner, and move the remaining 3 good ones around to suit, if it's possible.

Just a thought

I just scored this BEAUTY in a trade. It's an early TRB-4II with an upgraded Bartolini pre-amp. Can I join the Club? Do we get Numbers, or are we just IN or OUT?

I'm usually not a Big Fan of the 35" scale, but this one plays effortlessly. I can sling it Extra low and anchor the thumb on the 24th fret, A La early Geezer Butler. Great balance, and fits my 75" frame nicely!

Very nice, I have the exact same model/color, though with the original preamp. I've considered replacing the preamp and pups with barts. I DID put a hipshot on the E string though. How's it playing/sounding for you?
