Yamaha Motion B Bass Guitar

I purchased this Motion B III in Japan while working at The Fisherman's Wharf back in '88.

It had been hanging for 2 years in a west facing window and yellowed a bit from the sun. Without mentioning a thing the salesman knocked a bunch off the price and I got it for US$210. It weathered the rainy season far better than my Alembic Distilate did as we were on an outside stage every day for 3 shows a day, rain or shine.

I have a white MBIII and had a Black one...I bought the White one NEW in 1986 and the black one used in 90 but it was an 1986 as well ..I will never part with it to many memories and fun to play in fact I played the bejesus out of it..I have now retired it from road use and use it to practice with from time to time...It was medium scale which was great cause i have short fingers..The "Yama"Played fast and had great action and cool tone....

Hi. I have a Green Motion B-I from ehm... 80's, I don't know the exact date but the thing is that I accidentally disconnected some leads in the circuit. Can someone upload a picture of the circuit?. I just need to know where the battery cables connect to the board, a cable that goes to where all the black cables go in the jack (ground I think) and a white cable that goes to ehm... the jack.

Please, I need your help because I wanted to paint it white but I accidentally broke this wires before getting a photo or something.

The board says ED-430098 and I need the leads for 9, 10, and eleven, and another wire.

PD. I just need the photo of the back, where there are no numbers and components

Thanks!

By the way... It has active pickups, so, the circuit is a bit difficult. So I'd appreciate if someone knows where the battery leads go to in the circuit board, so, a photo would be great. I'll try to post a photo of the bass to let you see the problem.

Thanks!

The originals did indeed have the Motion Logo printed on the body.

IIRC, only the Motion MB2 had the fine tuner bridge, which the 1 and 3 didnt have.

My MB 2 had a fantastic sound, easy to play, a tiny headstock, they weigh nothing, and were 32" scale, if memory serves

I have this same bass currently.
Fun little thing. Currently serves as a platform for my Roland V-Bass.

I actually bought a used MB-I (same exact model as I bought new about 20 years ago) and it does have the fine tuners on the bridge, so the comment about only the MB-II having the fine tuners isn't correct.. The MB-I also has active electronics (9V).

The 45degree string height adjusters on the bridge is making me ask what do I adjust first the height of the string or the intonation? I'm guessing the height of the string (would make sense) but I don't have the bass manual yet.... (I also posted a pic of the bass on the Yamaha Club Part II - message #507)

Hello,

On My motion B the original pickups were replaced with Active EMG's in the p/j configuration. This was done early 80's. The pickups are very quiet and I would like to replace them with NON active pickups. Anyone replace the pickups on their MB bass and if so what did you get, any suggestions? I play with fingers only and play a lot of slap. :bassist:
