Yamaha powered mixer quality?

Looks like I'll be putting together a budget P.A. soon.

What do you think about Yamaha's current quality?

I know they used to make great stuff, but I haven't purchased anything from them for years.

Anyone here have actual experience with their powered mixers?

Mackie's are out of my budget since they're selling used on ebay for $400+.

I have an EMX312SC 300w per side and was running it into two Yamaha S115V's. I wanted more power and size, so I bought a Yamaha P7000S power amp and two S112V's for monitors. 1100w per pair, with the 12 channel mixer.

If I was going to recommend a PA to you I'd either say Yamaha or the Yorkville Excursion system, the Excursion would be the way I'd like to go if I started over, because it's very compact yet powerful, but I don't think it's as available to you in the states, or nearly as cheap. I would look into the EMX312SC package they have on musiciansfriend, or if you feel you want a bit bigger, get the 500w per side powered mixer they have with more channels with those cabs.

15 years, maybe more. Granted not moved around, but sits in an unvented cab with cables and stuff all around it.
sometimes bands have used it. figure on and off cycles three to five times per week. On cycles lastin between two and six hours.

Those powered Yamaha mixers are really nice. We use one all the time with 2-way 15's. We run everything through it - vox, guitar, keys, bass, drums, everything. Works great for small - medium venues.

The Yamaha EMX series of mixers are decent small rigs. You will do fine with one. Buy as much wattage as you can afford.

The SoundCraft Gig Racks are nice too. I own a couple of those (GR600 & GR1000)that are left over from my rental fleet. They are solid little mixers and are nice and compact and easy to transport. They are in the same price range as the Yamaha.

I've used the EMX-5000-12 for quite a few gigs, and it has performed admirably. I sometimes need more channels, so I use a small Behringer as a submixer (usually for drums).

I have used lots of Yamaha products: bass, bass amp, acoustic guitar, mains, etc. I have confidence in their products.
