I know for sure that the TRB6 does not have piezo, but I thought that the TRB6JP did. You probably know more about it than I do, so I stand corrected.

Is there no differences between the pckups or the elctronics between the TRB6, TRBJP, TBJP2??
I have for the moment a TRB6 wich I think is a great sounding bass. I think the B-string is a bit weak though. Theres not enough punch. Could I expect more punch in the B-string if I traded up to a TRB JP or JP2 or do they all sound almost identically?

I believe the JPs have unique preamps. I know the JP (original version) has bass and treble controls and a 3 position eq preset control. Position 1 is flat, and two and 3 are customizable via micro pots inside the control cavity. I'd rather have a straight 3 band.
I can also say, of all my 6 strings (A custom LowEnd Jazz 6, an STR 6 string with dual humbuckers, and the JP), it has the most thunderous B string of the bunch. The original JPs are some of the finest basses I've ever heard, and have a super usable sound, without exception.

The JP2 has 26 frets, but is also a 35" scale. Now, I will *not* be one of those that tell you that helps the B string. The B string on the JP is amazing, as it was on my TRB6P years ago (that one is neck through). For me, it's a question of scale length, and I don't prefer 35" necks.
The body wood is what I think is the key here. The TRB6 is an ash body, while the TRBJPs have a hippie sandwich of maple, ash and alder.
There's a reason the JP costs so much more....
The TRBJP2 has a 35" neck, and I believe it does help the Bstring a tiny bit. but honestly I have the TRB6JP and I have no complaints on the Bstring. I think they both sound great.
The TRBJP2 does feel bigger. It might be the 35" scale and also the body construction that accommodates the two extra frets. I have only one gigbag that the TRBJP2 will fit, and all my other ten plus basses will fit in any standard size bag.

The need for a JP is just getting stronger everyday. There is a TRBJP for sale now (in Sweden where I'm from) and maybe if I behave myself Santa will bring it to me.
I am at the point of deciding between these 3 models and I think I have finally decided to go for the 6PII based on my preferences...
Here are the main differences I found after a few weeks of research:

- Ash body with Ovangkol top gives brighter, open sound (looks brilliant too!!)
- Maple neck & premium Mahogany = yum yum

- beautiful & effective seperate bridge saddles reduce bleed from other strings
- Brilliant bass that makes me drool and feel I'm home!

Nathan East 2

- 34" scale
- Alder body with Maple top, gives more rounded deep end tones
- Neck is also made of Maple & Premium Mahogany
- NO PIEZZO

- 3 band eq with mid range frequency cut control & switch (nifty!)
- Same seperate saddles as 6pii
- I must say the solid white bass with the golden hardware is the most sexy & sleek ever!

- The American site (yamaha.com) claims it also has piezzo pickup, which might explain the pickup balancer knob better. A salesman confirmed this, but I'm still not sure till I hopefully try it out next week.

- single, bulky (but good looking) solid brass bridge.

My findings so far is that, although the Nathan East is a brilliantly beautiful bass (my friend has one) and has the nifty mid-cut EQ knob & switch, I feel I can do more with the added piezzo pickup on the 6pii. Also I enjoy the brighter, punchier sound of the Ash/Ovangkol wood more than the darker sound of Alder/Maple combo. (that's just me
)Lastly, the JP2 is also a beatiful, exotic-looking bass that should provide an awesomely unique sound.
The 26 frets also allow for more exploration, but, other than these facts there's not too much that screams out "TAKE ME!" - Especially the bolt-on neck, because I want the extra sustain that the neck-thru provides.
Here's my final verdict: First choice: TRB6pii
Close second: Nathan East - BBNE2
Runner up: John Patitucci - TRBJP2
However, I will do a final test when the local shop gets all 3 in for me next week, but I'm pretty sure my choice will stay the same.
Anyone who buys either of these 3 basses surely has a treasure for a lifetime!

I have the TRBJP2. I also have 3 neck-through basses. I can guarantee there is no extra sustain. My TRBJP2 rings forever and ever! Unbelievable sustain!
