I thought about a 5 for a while, but decided to straight to a 6. I play around on the C string more than the B string, and like being able to play 2-octave scales from one position. Playing fingerstyle, I am already pretty comfortable with the extra strings, and going to a floating thumb technique didn't take too long to get used to. I still have a lot of problems with slap style though. I'm OK with the thumb, but my plucking/popping fingers are constantly lost in all those strings. I guess it just takes more practice.

I just need to get a lot better to live up to the expectations folks will have when I whip this thing out :)

Received the new electronics for my TRB6 earlier this week and just got around to installing it. The original bridge pickup was dead, so i ordered new Bartolini G6 pickups and a Glockenklang preamp.

The combination is very good. It seems to be a little warmer sounding than my previous TRB, which i guess is caused by the Bartolini pickups mostly. It still has the piano quality to the sound as well as a supertight B-string.

The new preamp is dead silent, wasn't too hard to install, and I'd very transparent. Has a passive switch, and if you dial off the boosts, the level is identical between active and passive modes. A winner. Retains the pickup signal perfectly without colouring it.

Am I happy? Yes. I was forced to swap there guts out, but definitely don't regret buying it again!

What is the difference between these basses beside they have different scale length? Does anybody know where I could get a service manual of the trb jp? Maybe a service manual of the trb jp2 could also help if the electronics is identical.
I purchased two days ago a trb jp from a fellow TB'er with a broken preamp which I would like to fix.

it looks like there may be some minor wood differences too. If you click on the Support tab, there's a blurb about requesting a printed manual copy from the service dept.

Thanks for your answer. According to this links, it seems that the preamps are not the same. Unfortunately I can't find the relevant service manual with the schematics for the preamp repair. Maybe someone has it in pdf. I downloaded once the service manual of a trb6p but I'm not sure if a service manual for the trbjp exists.

A fellow TBer sent me the asked service manual and I could order the parts which I need to replace.

What side effects did the bass have? I'm looking to repair my 6PII but I've been told that I need to replace all the electronics. I really, really hate the idea but I need to get it done asap. I'm just curious as to what the side effect was. I hear a high pitch feedback.

On mine, it was just a little humming and buzzing. but the reason I changed was that the bridge pickup was dead. :)
