I got a new to me TRBJP last week. I've been a JP fan for a long time, and have wanted one of these basses for just as long. I really like the tone, the looks, and the wide string spacing. I had a 5-string a long time ago, but didn't like the tight string spacing, so this feels a lot more comfortable to me.
I thought about a 5 for a while, but decided to straight to a 6. I play around on the C string more than the B string, and like being able to play 2-octave scales from one position. Playing fingerstyle, I am already pretty comfortable with the extra strings, and going to a floating thumb technique didn't take too long to get used to. I still have a lot of problems with slap style though. I'm OK with the thumb, but my plucking/popping fingers are constantly lost in all those strings. I guess it just takes more practice.
I just need to get a lot better to live up to the expectations folks will have when I whip this thing out![]()
That Fender in back has a familiar look to it.
