Just got my super sexy TRB-5 in the mail and all I can say is WOW!!! Best $300 I've ever spent. Seriously this thing sounds as good if not better than my F-Bass. (which I paid ten times more for!) I love it!

But I'm having a tough time getting the action low. I like it stupid low. I've cranked the truss basically as far as it'll go and adjusted the bridge just barely to the point of fretting around the 15th fret. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you have a truss rod issue. So either you need to get that fixed or you can try shimming the neck.

Here is my TRB-6P. I love the tonal capability of this basses and the fact that are 19mm string spacing and 34" scale but unfortunately my hands can't handle a sixer.
So it's for sale now in the classified.

Hey folks,

Looks like I've joined the club! (Pics soon!) Used to have a brand-new, red, 1st gen TRB5P back in the 90s and just bought another one recently, although it's pretty beaten up and nowhere near as nice as my original one. (Either in condition, or amount of flame in the maple body.) Anyway, mainly wanted to say that I couldn't stand the hissy, stock pre-amp, so have just had an Aguilar OBP-3 put in it and it sounds HEAPS better! I had the entire cavity shielded with copper, so there's no noise at all and the Aggie gives a good bit more punch, mids and treble at much better frequencies that the original pre-amp. (At least to my ears.) The piezo pups are currently not connected, so at some point, I'll get a Bartolini piezo buffer and hook them up too, but will need to drill an extra hole, as I'm currently using all 5 for the Aggie.

Yeah it's official, after a week of ownership, my new TRB-5 is the best bass I own. I'm LOVING it! It has just overthrown my Fbass as my A bass.

Question: have Any of you TRB guys found a solution for angled 1/4" cables not fitting into the input jack? I hate that you have to use a straight plug and that half of it sticks out the side. I was thinking about either a longer barrel input jack (if they exist) or sliding my current jack out the hole more and finding a clever way to secure it? Thoughts?

I'm back in the club! I just picked this up today from a great TB'er, Vic. I cannot believe the great condition this bass is in! It is 13 years old, and it looks better than a whole lot of new basses I have seen in shops. This bass must never have been gigged!:eek: The pic was taken by Vic.

That is the identical twin to my TRB5II I bought new in 1998. Still have the clear plastic label on it showing the knob functions.
Although a Dingwall Combustion has replaced it as my main bass, I have no intentions of letting mine go. Still getting lots of practice time and I'm working on replenishing the gear fund to have it converted into a fretless professionally. There are some tunes I would like to use a fretless on in one of the cover bands I play with.
This way I'll have 2 great sounding basses to work with.

Still looking for my Yamaha Club member number though.

I plan to keep her for a very long time! Looking back, my problem has been that I have often gotten greedy and over extended myself which resulted in others getting great basses at discount prices.:hiding:

I am determined to break that pattern and hold on to some cool basses.;)

Yes, but that has to get to Holland (shipping), big chance I have to pay 19% VAT for it (darn customs), and then I'm probably paying the same or even more for it, and this one I can try :)

EDIT: I've checked it out, and that is a TRB5II, not the P version which is neck through, has a boutique top, ebony fretboard, piezo pickup etcetera. The €600 one is. Check the pic :)
