I'm not sure of the age, the serial number is one of those that means it was made sometime between '86 and '89.

It's a beautiful instrument, in really excellent condition, a true craftsman made bass.

Currently strung with d'daddario half wounds for the John Patitucci vibe.

Hi all

Please add me - this is my baby. The 1995 Yamaha TRB6 - the made in Japan, side by side single coil Alnico pickups. I've wanted to trade this in on something a little more user friendly (I have small hands) but there just isn't anything I've found that comes close to the sound of this awesome instrument!

Hey fellas. Has anyone tried a fretless conversion for the 1006 yet? I'm thinking of defretting mine, but i'm not sure if it'd be playable, ie the nut would have to be filed down to attain decent action, and not sure if it'd provide the mwah i'm looking for in a fretless. any ideas?

Went to my local music hangout to get my neck checked and they have a TRB1005 fretless that sings, and worse still, a late 90s TRB6... The first model with the new pickup design and the old body shape.
I guess in Dollars we're looking at roughly $1,000 and $1,300 respectively (2nd hand)... Daughter's education or GAS treatment.... Sigh... She better be a great doctor or lawyer or day...

I found online a BRAND NEW..IN THE BOX .. blue(clearcoat finish) TRB-4 in a little tiny music store in a little tiny town 2 hours from Charlotte N.C. I paid $950.00 shipped to my house in Florida.I had one in 1994 and sold it to fund other stuff. ive regreted that to this day so I decided to try to replace my first one....which was blue also!!! I just could not pass this up since I was actually expecting to have to get a used one... with not much success. how cool is that.... BRAND NEW...19years later.

no pics yet as it shipped out today.....

Hard to say, I say your NBD post as well (nice looking bass!). If you check out any of the Yamaha literature, they don't seem to make any distinction with that model (other than advertising it with Abe). You probably already found this, but if not there's info and a PDF here:

The PDF covers all the TRB models at that time...definitely nothing obvious. Perhaps once you get it something will stand out? Wood choice maybe? Perhaps yours won't be bubinga or maple? Maybe there's something different with the electronics? Or perhaps they just had Abe sign a handful of them and you're an even luckier guy? :bassist:

i think the only difference is the signature on the headstock and a date at the back of the headstock. either date of signing or manufacturing date. aside from those, its very identical to ordinary 5PII.

I think that's right - I saw Abe Sr. at the Baked Potato in LA earlier this year and he was playing one. You can watch guys from four feet away in that club, so I got a good look at the bass and it really just looked like a TRB to me...

I currently own the TRB6MK2 and the TRB6PII and their both awesome basses. The TRB6PII is weighty but I love the sound of the Piezo pickups. When soloing the highs are incredible. It has a variety of tones and I can coax the most amazing slap tone out of it when I play fusion or gospel.
