Yes - I'm looking for historical data - I want to know what the TRB-5II cost in the late 90s and early 2000s, and what the TRB-6P cost in the early 90s.
IIRC my TRB-6p was around $2500 new in the early 90s. I came up with 3/4s of the money from summer jobs and my parents came up with the rest as a birthday present.
I bought a TPB-6P new from the Bass Centre in Los Angeles in 1990. It was slightly over $2000 out the door.

They were pricey. I asked my rep about a 5Pii once. He had one in the back Yamaha had sent by mistake. Retail was $3,000 CDN so I took a pass. Still top of my list.

Yamahutz, I highly recommend Fodera Stainless Steel strings on this bass. I remember reading another Talkbass user saying that he thought his TRB-6P had sounded best when it had Fodera strings on it. I bought mine in February and the previous owner had old D'Addario strings on it (not sure which ones). I finally changed to Fodera SS strings last week and LOVE what they've done for the tone of the bass. They are kinda grippy, though, so you should keep that in mind.
I was a little afraid that having stainless steel strings on a bass this bright would make it overly bright, but that has not been my experience. I end up cutting treble a little bit and slightly favoring the neck pickup, but I had to make more adjustments with the old D'Addarios that the previous owner had on.
I heard Foderát are good strings...
I love DR Sunbeams, and Dane Alderson (Yellow Jacket) using DR Hibeams strings with his TRB 6II, they are very low tension (I love low tension) strings....but I think DR Fatbeams are very sumilar to Fodera SS...

Fodera SS are great. I use Dunlops SS Superbright on my TRB6II and just love them bit more than the Foderas which I had before the Dunlops.
And the search for incremental improvement continues! Knight of Ni, what do you like about the Dunlop SS super brights over the Fodera SS?
Now that's a tough question. Foderas are great strings, I have them on a G&L Tribute M2000, they really sound a more modern and more 'tame' than the Dunlops while still being in the SS string ballpark. What I like in the Dunlops is the crunch. Also, the low tension of the SBs seems to go well with the flat, high radius fingerboard. It makes it easy to slap (though I'm not a slapper), when the neck pickup is soloed and you pluck on the last frets you really have that Precision+DB type of sound, if you use the bridge pickup then you're in Jazz territory.
On my other basses I have DR Fatbeams, Dunlop SBs and Fodera. I put on the Foderas because I got two sets of Dunlop SB with a defective high C (I think it was an old batch stocked at retailer). In Europe you don't get that much choice for 6 strings sets, and Foderas are reasonably priced and stocked at Thomann. The defective sets were replaced by Dunlop and the new set (that I put on after the Foderas) is absolutely great. Also I started to use regularly Dunlop 65 string cleaner and while it did seem to take of the zing more quickly, the strings are still crunchy after 5 months (played 1 hour/day on average), which is a record for me (I usually go about 4 months).
To summarize, the strings I consider for my basses are DR Fatbeams, Foderas, and Dunlop SBs, all SS. Fatbeams and Dunlops are close, Foderas are a bit different and work very well when you want a bit more round, polite sound very modern, well kind of Boutique bass like sound. I haven't checked Fatbeams on my TRB6II due to availability/price here in, but that last set of Dunlops is absolutely fantastic and I don't think the Fatbeams would perform as well as these. I'm picky about strings : I believe the right set of strings can either bring a bass to life or make it sound dull (that depends on each bass, YMMV). I will add that I don't like nickels and I don't like D'Addarios Prosteel much.
