YAMAHA TRB CLUB

Indeed. I'm wondering whether they "set the neck" a bit deeper in the body for balance purposes and obviously the bridge position would need to move to compensate, but its just not clear if there is increased scale length too. To my eye it does appear that the scale might be different because the bridge seems to have moved further towards the bottom of the body than the 24th fret has moved in the same direction.
Well the scale is normally 33 7/8", not 34. The difference is probably not a full inch, if you compare the bridge position to the knob on the right (the piezo knob) ... Mine is more like the 1 st picture... I remember having measured it to 860 mm...

Is there a drastic difference tonally, in the early Yamaha Trb5P’s & the later version Trb5Pii? The Trb5P’s have the PJ pickup configuration, while the Trb5Pii’s have soapbar style pickups & a mid control from what I’ve gathered?
Anybody own both and could u give your thoughts and opinions on which you prefer ?I’ve found one of each and im looking at both models and trying to decide which one I really want. Thanks for any info !

Hi. I recently bought a Yamaha trb 4 II made in Japan from 2002. I found a few thread about the two trim pots and a few idea what is the idea behind them. Can someone explain me how to use them? Thanks

As far as I understand it, the trim pots adjust the mix between the coils in the pickups (or how much of the second coil you want). Where you want to set them is preference. Personally, I set them where the pickups were the least noisy (added some gain and pointed the pickups at a source of interference).

havent been able to post a new TRB in a looong time here but:

Havent been able to adjust the neck yet cause my truss rod wrenches are too long to fit in the channels so i had to order some short wrenches that should be here tomorrow. Sound great, though, as expected.

Wow, looks really clean. I have an older TBR5PII and my luthier had to remove some wood from under the fretboard to get the truss rod nut out for lubrication (yep!). Also sawed off a piece of the nut to solve the wrench problem.

The irony is i had a short truss rod wrench until last year and i packed it in with another bass i sold that needed it. I should have hung on to it - I always forget how much of a pain they are to find!

I got my appropriately sized stubby hex keys and was able to get the neck dialed in just right! Razorblade low action, from 1mm on the first string to 2mm on the low string. Beautiful!

NBD x 2! … Thursday & Friday I received two Trb’s, one a Trb5P & also a Trb5Pii.. both sound spectacular! Really impressive tone.. I’ve owned / own several botiques - smith, Modulus, Tobias, fibenare, Brubaker, dingwall.. these Yamahas just have a really beautiful tone, very pleased so far! I do have the original gold tuners coming this week for the Trb5P.

Congratulations! That’s an amazing haul. I know you’ve been interested in both of those for a while, and I always love when people go for option C (both!).

After you’ve taken some time to get used to them, would you consider taking sound samples and maybe putting a simple video up on YouTube or somewhere?

Thanks! May is gonna be a slow month gig wise, but if I end up getting any recordings, I’ll definitely post them.
