I replaced my B2 preamp with an Audere Classic. It's the best-priced of all the big preamp brands and sounds great! Keep that one in mind if my old board won't work for you.

so if MY TRB4 pre dies if i want to keep the stock pickups any compat in a pre for that? or is a pickup soap swap in the cards too
Not exactly the same animal, but I used the stock pickups in my TRB6-P with a couple of other preamps (Demeter, Aguilar) and they worked fine. I actually put in some Bartolini soapbars and took them out because I thought the stock pickups sounded better. The other preamps, especially the Aguilar, brought out the character of the stock pickups but with more clarity.
okay cool because i am a neck pickup slut with heavy fuzz and drive tones i really only use the neck pickup as it is the best sounding neck i have ever heard. and if i can get more clarity out of it BRO count me in. will scoop one up if i can find one what model of aguilar?
So after doing research I along with my buddy gave decided to replace the preamp with an Aguilar opb 3 5 knob preamp while still being able to use the piezo by installing a noll mixpot.
That's very interesting. I didn't know you could keep the full use of the piezo element, if there was a main preamp replacement....which has kept me from replacing mine. If you could, please elaborate on what you did with the noll mixpot. Thanks!
Will do sir. You won't be able to eq the piezo so the low cut with the piezo so be available. But should be able to blend the piezo with the magnetic pups.
Hey fellow TRB enjoyers, I got questions about this modification to current production TRB100x models. I've seen this mod done on a few Youtube videos, and I like the sound (in my case, I'd like to flip the bridge pickup):
I've DM'd the user quoted to get an answer to the following questions:
How easy/hard is this to do? Judging by the videos I've seen, you can't simply reorient the coils as they seem to be glued to the covers. So you have to flip the covers as well. However, the mounting screws are asymmetrical. Does this lead to problems with the wood if one were to just flip the whole pickup and screw the thing down without filling the holes first?
Does anyone here know? All my searches of the interwebs for a mod like this (that, despite its obscurity seems to be a favorite of 100x owners) have turned up empty.

First had a 1990 red sunburst single truss rod Yamaha TRB6P in the 90s. Sold it after a few years. In the early 2000s had a teal double truss rod TRB6P. Again sold that after a few years.
I just rejoined the club by getting a TRB6PII while on holidays overseas. Saw it online and bought it.
Glad to be back! I love the Yamaha piezo sound.

You’d be better off selling it and getting an ebony fretboard model. Changing the fretboard and the preamp seems like a lot of work when you could just find one that’s already closer to what you want.yeah.. u know.. most of yamaha artist series (and other high end basses too, i think) are using ebony.. it had something special to influence the sound overall.. right?
and about OBP-3.. surely i have no doubt to combined it with the original yamaha pickups.. must be great
Just snagged a '92 (I think) TRB-5P, previous owner replaced the J pup with a Duncan, which sounds nice enough, but doesn't quite balance with the surprisingly fabulous stock P. Also looks kinda goofy with the foam "wings" exposed in the route. Is the original a true single coil or a stacked hum of some kind, and is it worth tracking one down? Might do it anyway just for aesthetics tbqh.
Hi!The TRB6 and the TRBJP are essentially the same.
The TRB6 has a rosewood fingerboard, the TRBJP has ebony fingerboard.
They both share the same electronics.
The TRBJP has fancy inlays and a fancy top.
I think IMHO the TRB6 might have a little bit fatter neck. QAt least that is how it felt to me, although I can't be 100% sure.
The TRBJP2, has a 35" scale as opposed to the TRB6 and TRBJP.
Also the mid knob is tuned to a lower mid frequency that seems to add volume as well.
The TRB6 and TRBJP have a mid know that clicks into 3 different preset. The first one is flat, the second one is a mid scoop, that cuts mids and boosts highs and lows, and the third preset boosts the midrange. So as you open the back you see these little tiny knobs that will set the particular mid frequency that will be affected. It's a very cool feature.

How's the neck on both?
I have a TRB-6P Series 1 i.e. j pickups with the bridge pickup closer to the bridge and a single truss rod. Unfortunately, the neck is a bit sensitive to climate changes.
I just bought a TRB-6 i.e. similar to the TRB-JP as you've described. I want to know if has a solid neck which requires less adjustment at the truss rod compared to the TRB-6P.
