Yes, another "What Bass" post...

Hiya guys

I know you get one of these a day, but i am about to buy my second bass, as my band has taken off well, and we are gigging every week.
At the moment, I am borrowing a mates cort active bass, which has much nicer bass tones than my crappy epiphone EB3.
problem is, the neck is thick, and the action is too high, and I dont wanna spend money on a bass i dont own to get it sorted.

So.
I have around £500 to spend on a bass.
At the minute, I go straight into the mixing desk at gigs, and have a wireless headphone setup so I can hear myself play. And I am very happy with the setup.
So I can pretty much spend this money on a bass, and leave the amp for another 6 months or so.

I like the ibanez soundgear necks, they are really thin and fast, and I have small hands.
plus, I like active electronics, as I can ramp up the bass when I need to on rockier songs, or bring it down a bit when we play a slow jazzy one.

I've been looking at a few Yamaha's. Tried a few fenders.
but i am lost.

I wouldnt say I am a good bassist, I've only been playing 2 years.
So i'll probably upgrade when I improve and find the limits of a cheapish bass.

Any advice or recommendations are greatfully recieved!

Cheers guys
DB

For the money I've always had good luck with Yamaha's I've owned several and although some are better than others I've never had a "Bad" one....my Suggestion would be to spend a few hours in a well stocked music store....play as many basses as you can get your hands on...then buy the one that speaks to you...at least one will say "Take me home"

Well, i've been going to my local store for 4 months +, and they dont get much in the way of new stock.
i am planning a trip to a hopefully bigger store on the weekend.

I just dont want to get a bass that feels nice, only to find out i've bought a dud because i dont know what i'm on about! :)
