They'd sell a lot more .105 E strings that way, for sure.

I have been using Labella 760FL's and love the feel and tension, however they don't always work in all rooms and styles. I had a set of the 9050's laying around so I threw them on my P bass, they must be the heavier gauge because they were noticeably more stiff and higher tensioned than the 760FL's. I did like the sound, a bit more crisp and upper mids than the Labella's, but they were just a bit too stiff for me. How are the 9050L or ML's, how do these compare with Sadowsky as an alternate to 760FL's.
I have the 9050L on my Jazz bass. I think they are a bit less stiff than the Sadowsky Black Label lights I had on my P bass. The Fenders have a more modern sound to my ears, the Sadowsky's more vintage.
Yea, I'm just trying to find the right balance in tone. As mentioned I generally love Labella 760FL's, they record great, but in some live situations they lack clarity/articulation and that grindy edge. So maybe the 9050L's?
I've tried both the 760FL and the 9050L and find them fairly close in terms of tension and overall playing feel.
You should be okay with the 9050L.
I love and use these strings on nearly all of my basses! I am taking delivery on a White Jack Casady bass next week. Has anyone tried 9050s on a JC before? How did they work out for you? Do the silks on the 9050s snag on the saddles of the stock Epi 3-point bridge? Will a Hipshot Supertone bridge overcome this problem? Thanks for any info.
I tried Chromes on a Casady which some consider brighter than the Fenders and I didn't like them at all. If you like strictly fat bottom go for it, but I like a more full range string on the Casady. I was running DM Blue Steels on my Casady and they sound fantastic, but now I have Ernie Ball Cobalt flats on it and they are even better! What a nice full range string! As far as silks on the saddle I have a bit of silk from the E string on it and it didn't bother anything, but some strings are an issue. You can buy a mod bar that fits on the end of the bridge and pulls the string's back a bit to get the silks off or even trim the silk back if its an issue. The bridge is working fine on mine but some have had issues with it pulling out and having to glue it back in or replace it with a hipshot. I'm kind of a if it ain't broke don't fix it kind of guy, so unless issues develop it will stay put on mine.
I am just switch my 6 months old 760fl to my used a month old 9050L .
The 9050L is less tention than 760fl, I need to tweak the trust rod clockwise about a 3/4 turn.
Both tone is different, 760fl is completely old school Vibe with less mid. The d and g string is full and round.
While the 9050L is great low mid and mid present.it is great in Mix with Noisy band.I can hear the 9050L with some Zing, but that not Chrome like zing. It is thicker and less metalic.
The string surface, 760fl is smoother than 9050L.
Now the 9050L become my favorite.
I've got some India Ink that'll cure that light green silk on the Fenders I have (if they go back on anything- would rather trade them for something else, but they're 2x2 as I bought them). And the same thing for Ken Smith Compressors- love the tone, but WHY PURPLE? Black or red, or better yet, none. Next will be 'rainbow'.
I've put a set of 9050L (45-100) on my '74 Ricky, and I've got a set on order for my AVRI '74 Jazz.
If they get better with age, amazing - as I like them from the off!
I'm digging the feel, and the tone - the Ric is still very Ricky - but with a bit more grunt behind it. I've used D'addario Nickels for years - nice strings, but I was getting a bit fed up with the 'zing'.....maybe I'm just getting old!

I put the 9050L on my Jazz bass about 1.5 years now. They sounded good from the start, but just keep getting better.
So how do the 9050L's compare with the Sadowski Black label lights? As mention in a previous post, looking for a Labella alternative. I love the 760FL's, but in some rooms I need a bit more articulation and "grind". I only have the budget to try one or the other.
I've tried all three mentioned.
Based on my assessment, I would say the Sadowsky Lights (40-100) sit right in between the 760FL and 9050L. Plenty of thump but slightly more mids than the La Bella for better articulation.
The Fenders are not quite as "thumpy" at the bottom, although they're still nice and full-bodied once broken in. Pushed hard, they can have some "grind" and even "growl", especially on a Jazz bass.
So, if you like the La Bella but want "a bit more articulation and grind", you might want to try the Sadowsky first before the Fender. And the fact the Sadowsky flats are made by La Bella would make them a closer kin to the 760FL than the 9050L.
Thanks, I was leaning this way myself. The Sadowsky's are a bit $, but ill put those on next.....I also have a set of GHS compressions waiting in the wings
