Yes. I've seen it.

I may be totally wrong (as FZ once said), but the Bongo looks nothing like a toilet seat, does it?

I guess these wonks are talking about the pickguard. I wish people would be a bit clearer about their unfounded insults.

Hey Joe,

Glad you liked the review. It's true--I have semi-followed your Bongo dreams (as well as your admirable if brief pledge to stay away from the internet), but we weren't trying to stick it to you--honest! When we laid out this page I actually thought, let's make it look real nice so Joe can clip it out and hang it above his piggy-bank.

BoiNtC - save your trip for a couple of weeks; the March BP goes on sale Feb 24; it's the subscribers who are starting to get it now.

What did you guys think of the rest of the issue? How're we doing?

Actually it brings to mind a corner toilet seat, a pretty avant-garde statement IMO.

I played one at GC last week.

The real question is, why would we care of an opinion of someone who can't even read a tape measure? The use of the term "********" in a derogatory way IMO is offensive. If you would like to cause trouble, please go do it somewhere else with people more your own wavelength. You've proven time, and again to be a troll, and have displayed your thoughts on "us" negatively elsewhere. Why don't you pack your bags, and hit the road.

So what became of the LA15 with the 12" speaker? Did Ox sue them (SWR) already... or was water added to make it all better?

I did consider doing exactly that. Don't like cutting up my BP mags though. I may make this one exception. Only an Eden ad on the other side too - and I'm not interested. I did happen to notice you followed the Bongo review with a bass player credit card ad that I never saw before. Was that also part of your kindness??? :)

As for the magazine, I must say that I really am impressed. I think I said in another thread that it seems to me you really do want to provide a quality product for us. I get the feeling you honestly care and that it isn't all only about dollars and cents. The magazine is packed now with new gear, more letters, more stuff all round to sink my teeth into. I no longer get through it in one sitting - and probably most importantly, I feel inspired again when I read it. Reading about Justin made me want to dive into some of my pedals again and get experimental, and reading about Gail Ann Dorsey helped me break through some delusional thinking I'm sometimes guilty of. I've seen her perform with Bowie several times and wondered how she had the confidence to land a gig like that. It was great to learn that she thought the initial call was a hoax, and that she rattled in her boots the entire first 2 years she played with him. I like hearing stuff like that. Makes me know I'm not alone and helps me feel equally worthy of sharing a stage with such greats. I'm already on my way as the most recent gig I've landed is with a woman who is fairly succesful in Belgium (not quite Bowie, but a step in the right direction).

Next thing I think BP should do is start doing full page write-ups and interviews with lesser known, unsigned artists. You know, guys who pound the hell out of the pavement relentlessly, playing their own tunes with a never dying passion - simply because they know of no other way to live. Hey, if you decided to do that I know a great bass player you could start with!!!!!! He even has some great pix of himself with some half naked fans at his website. He'd be happy to send you a DVD and CD of his best stuff if you were interested. :D Heck, he's a nice guy, I think he'd send ya some even if you weren't interested.

I think they look pretty good in person. The 5 strings in particular. I played on at GC here the other day, but it was in a state of SUCK setupwise. I could have fired arrows with the B and E strings, so I didn't get a good impression about actual potential.

I'd like to get me a properly set up Bongo, because I did like the neck profile and shape.

Hey, I've always been curious. Does BP buy the instruments they review? Or are they loaned from the manufacturer, or given to BP?

They're loaned from the manufacturer. Generally, we ship products back shortly after we've finished the issue in which we run the review, but sometimes we keep things around a little longer to use with other products we test. We're definitely dragging our feet on sending the Bongos back.

If we bought the products we reviewed or they were given to us, we'd have a serious storage problem on our hands. Doubling the amount of products we review each month has already presented us with a bit of storage challenge, especially since Guitar Player, Keyboard, and EQ have also been doing lots of reviews. In other words, we're already up to our ears in gear, not to mention CDs and books folks send us to review. Having 25 additional basses around for our December Bargain Bass Blitz was no joke. I'll post some office photos some time.

This is one thing I don't get because supposedly GC just receives the basses and sticks 'em on the wall. Do they get stuffed into an unheated warehouse in Antarctica or something?

I say this because I was at GC last night and they had 4 Bongos  and only one had a decent setup on it! Two weeks ago this GC only had one Bongo so it's not like they've been around for too long. There was a Stingray I checked out, but its setup was too low! Couldn't play anything without buzz buzz buzz.

Looks like we have a winner for the next location for a TB Gathering!!! I'll bring the cake....

DD

BTW - I find it impressive that the editor of such a high profile publication takes the time to surf TB and respond to posts in such a timely and thoughtful manner. OK, done sucking up.....

Bill, just to let you know, based on this months issue, with TB'er's Funkster in the "working stiffs", and the Tino article, I placed an order for a two year subscription. Keep up the good work!

blzbb == Beelzebub? :D

Off the top of my head, here's some BP feedback:

1) Issues are now arriving in excellent condition... thanks!
2) Sorry to be so unimaginative, but I think bass porn should always include one full-frontal: i.e. no weird angle with the headstock out of focus. Detail photos *in addition to* full frontal are always welcome.
3) Snobs only want to read about the elite bassists... (many) kids only want to read about their pop heroes. Thanks for continuing to cover the Fat Mikes and the Ray Browns.
