Well, that happened to me this week.
I've long enjoyed a blog called Power Line--even used examples from it in a scholarly book I published in 2006 about blogs. Power Line is mostly about politics and law, but they frequently have threads about music and musicians, and I always check those out.
It turns out Buck Dharma (of Blue Oyster Cult) is also a reader of that blog, and there was a thread about his new solo tune.

Wow...I've listened to that recording a zillion times since. The bass line itself ain't much of a challenge, but I've copped the chords on my bass (shell voicings) and learned the vocal melody and some of the guitar lines and keyboard parts.
I was thinking about why that song got stuck in my head the way it did. Well, for one thing I'm old like Buck, so I guess we're both in that phase of life where we look back on the course of our lives, personal and musical.
Another thing is that we're both from about the same area, and the video has images of places I knew in Asbury Park NJ--the Casino, the Wonder Bar, the Stone Pony.
Yet another is that, way back, I played in a bar band with Tom Zvonchek, who later played keys with BOC. And in my day job I was Jon Rogers's boss for a time, after he played bass with BOC.
Just got me feeling reflective...and the poem Buck used for the lyrics is all about that.
