Yeah, I keep that button on all the time. Sounds a lot better with it on (like night and day). Is that Bass Sansamp any good for live? I will be playing shows with this. Also any tips on getting a "metal' sound from anyone? My guitar has an active pre-amp, but maybe if I change the pickups to some active EMG's it would give me the sound I want. I like the sound so far, but I am not too sure what to do with that graphic equalizer on the amp. I just kinda change stuff to see what happens haha.

Yeh, arguably an industry standard. The MXR 180 is very similar. Both have a DI and warm up SS amps nicely!

I'd also suggest EMGs for rock/metal. I'd go for a 40DC at the neck and a 40CS at the bridge. And and either an EMG BT (two band) or BQ (3 band) tone circuit while you're at it... :D

Count me in! I use a Traynor TC808 (and sometimes a TC810) with a Genz Benz GBE1200 and I totally love it. Here's a pic of the TC810/Genz Benz rig:

How's it sound, though?

How's it sound, though?

I have the opportunity to purchase a Yorkville BM400 combo amp locally for $399. From the picture it looks like it's in excellent shape and the store is a quality place - they wouldn't sell it if it didn't work. I wanted to get some opinions on it before I drove the 45 minutes to check it out, though. I don't want to waste my time.

I own a G&L L2500 Tribute bass strung with Sadowsky flats and I'm looking for a clear and warm sound. I've got an Acoustic B200 right now and the sound is right - I'm just not sure about the long term reliability of it.

Can I get that kind of sound out of the BM400? I don't want to have to go through an amp modeling pedal and then into the BM400 to get the tone I'm looking for.

Thanks!

I haven't played through a BM400, but I'd say that for a buck per watt, it'd be worth a try. Only you know what tone you're after.

From all I've read it looks like Yorkville amps have a very clean, uncolored tone - is that right?

Because of this would they make good platforms for amplifying a Sansamp or Hartke Bass Attack pedal?

The solid state Yorkvilles have a fairly clean and uncoloured sound. Of course, the ones with a tube preamp add some colour. I've used one of the old Sansamp pedals into a couple Yorkvilles and it brightened up the tone and added a bit of punch in the bottom. As well, it added a bit of sort of tube like distortion. All in all it made the amp a little less bland but also makes it stick out more in the mix-not something I usually want. On most of the Yorkvilles the eq is not flat when set in the 12 o'clock position, but that's common with most amps.

I suppose you could say they're a good platform for amplifying an effects pedal. Lots of amps are.
