Excluding tuner and DI and I could only have two it would be dirt and modulation.
tuner > DSM SubAtomic (or bass fat drive depending on gig) > EHX Bass Clone > DI

By coincidence, here is the new pedal board I made at the weekend. I've distilled down the minimum I need for what I play - bluegrass, big band and P&W. I'm using the bypass output on the TU-3 to provide a signal for my IEM amp. The GEB-7 helps boost the output into the StageBug DI, which splits the signal to PA and my own bass amp. That's the theory at least - I'm waiting on some new cables arriving before trying it out.

Then I go back to my original quest c.2006 or so adding a mild overdrive to a compressor, which today would be a TC w a prefered soundprint and a Wounded Paw Black Sheep overdrive. If allowed a 3rd that would be Boss RV3 which does subtle reverb&delay or almost infinite slow decaying repeats for intros and such.

Since I don't need to worry about my DI or compressor (Broughton Messenger and Omni comp), I'd keep my EQD Avalanche Run and MA Count to 5.

Count to 5 is so incredible on the bass. I love that thing so much.
