You can only have two effects pedals...

Depends on the environment.
-Church: Wampler Ego compressor, and London Underground
-Gigging band: I use an Orange Terror Bass, so my distortion needs are handled. So mostly I just use the aforementioned compressor. Might use an octave sometimes.

How would a multi-unit factor in?
I'm usually a zero effects kind of guy but a show required a bunch of stuff: octave, synth, flange, chorus & envelope so I go a Zoom B3n which totally covered all that and more.
If that counts as only one then I still got room to add a nice analog unit of some sort!

Idiotbox Blower Box Distortion and some kind of analog chorus pedal (EHX Small Clone maybe?). If I'm playing Shoegaze or whatever I'd probably need more, but I think BB and Chorus should cover me for most genres.
OK, so I'm looking for a really good wah pedal with distortion. Is the Morley 2020 Distortion Wah made for guitar, or does it even matter? I had bought a Justin Chancellor pedal, but I sent it back as it didn't work properly. Plus, that's overpriced. It is specifically made for bass. I'm not real versed on effects. I'm not sure if you need them to be built specifically for bass or guitar like amps. This might be exactly what I need, and it's only half the price of the Chancellor.
I love the Distortion Wah personally, but I do think *all* wahs benefit from having some clean bass underneath so it doesn't drop out the lows too much when you wah. I'm running mine in a crossover loop from my HXFX where it has clean lows and just sends above-300hz through the effects. note: The same series Fuzz Wah sounds better with a full-freq parallel blend, I've found.
EDIT to add: Most of the time, pedals is pedals. Bass/guitar doesn't matter too much, but, bass-specific pedals tend to have things like clean blends built into them to preserve the lows, or different frequency centers, things like that. The Morley wahs are almost certainly tuned more for guitar, but I think they sound good enough - supplement with some dry in parallel to keep the bottom down and you're good to go.
I actually generally only run two FX, lately it has been: Zoom B3 amp model called "Heavenly" and some light reverb. FOH engineer handles the compression for me. Done and done.
If my current Walrus Badwater counts as my DI pedal (with compression and drive) then I think I'd go:
Tuner -> Vintage Bass Octave -> Joshwah - > Badwater
If I don't get a DI with a built-in drive and it can be nothing more than something like the M81 Bass Preamp (with an EQ and XLR), then I think I'd go for:
Tuner -> Joshwah -> Pork and Pickle -> Generic DI.
I feel like the effects I use most, in order of preference and utility for me, are:
Overdrive > Envelope > Fuzz > Octave
Tuner -> Vintage Bass Octave -> Joshwah - > Badwater

The real question is if I had to limit to only one dirt pedal, which one would it be? Probably Way Huge Pork and Pickle because it's so flexible, but MBD-2 would be a close runner-up there.

The Dub Switch (One Control Crimson Red Bass Pre) for a massive tonal overhaul on a quick stomp and the Strymon El Cap for all my temporal needs. I can get away with everything else using amps (i.e. CRANK THE GAIN) or technique.
