I must just be naturally greasy. I've never felt the need to lubricate my fingers. Oh well....

When it's sold it originates from shark liver, not human noses. Same substance though.

I use it on fishing rods - it eases disassembly (just rub the male end of the rod directly on the nose). Never used it on the bass.

i lick my fingers all the time just to get a more tactile sensation when i pluck the string i have to keep doing it because the moisture evaporates. i dont like my right hand fingers all slidey and greasy. maybe thats what why hes doing it

I have done it once or twice but I more blow into my hands kind of how Brett Favre would do it at Lambeau.

My hands are too cold sometimes and i can't get any speed if they aren't warn.

Another nose greaser here, but usually only in cold rooms where my plucking fingertips just can't break a little moisture on their own.

I slightly lick my right hand index finger when I play with a pick. In the winter the air is so dry that I can't keep a decent grip on my pick, so slightly wetting my index finger and thumb helps me get a better grip on my pick. Other than that, I don't see the need to wet anything else!

I once saw a Reggae bassist who did this, quickly licking his finger every few notes he played. It almost made me puke after watching him for a while.

I wanted to suggest he glue a little sponge in a plastic cup like they have in post offices to wet stamps with to his bass, but I never got a chance to speak to him.

Nose or forehead grease for me, cause oil doesn't wear away as quickly due to lack of acidity, maybe (saliva also isn't oil-based, and oil as we know is a good lubricant. Lol...). Unless you're giving the drummer a wet willy (or something else, if your drummer's a chick...)
